If you like ketchup....

I bought a bottle of the new Heinz "One-Carb" ketchup yesterday. It's
really quite good. I doubt whether I could distinguish it from real
ketchup! It's a bit more expensive than ordinary Heinz, but only half as
costly as Atkins or Walden Farms "no-carb!"

                             Myron

PS Someone is gonna ask....it's sweetened with Sucralose!

I'll have to try it.. I tried the Atkins once and thought it was so gross..
nothing like ketchup. I was going to throw it out then ended up thinning it
out a bit a using it as a barbecue sauce.

It was on special at Stop and Shop (CT) the other day. With the reduced
price, it cost the same as the same-size squeeze bottle of regular Heinz
ketchup.

I bought some, but haven't tried it. Since turkey breast was also on
special, I'll be going through quite a bit of Russian dressing this
week, so the ketchup special was fortuitous.

Oh sniff.  I keep looking, but seeing the label under its shelf
space is as close as I have come.  There was a sign saying S&S was
out of that item, but it never came in--unless it disappeared
REALLY quickly.  I have looked every time I have been there--and
that is very frequent.

Assuming that the shelf space by the tags had been full, they'd already
sold 2/3 of their stock by the time I found it. Of course, I contributed
to the panic buying, and bought 2!

My cold turkey with Russian dressing was great! (Not to make you feel
bad or anything...)

Well, I have been looking practically every day.  I guess that
means I'm off to hunt again.  Mebbe three stores.  Mebbe four.  I
WANT it!  Then I have to go down and throw out my HC stuff to make
way for my clutter of LC stuff.  That HC stuff (like pastas) is
rather old, and not any temptation, but it takes up space.

The Stop & Shop in Hudson had two bottles of it left on Friday.  (I bought
them both.  Felt a little guilty, wondering if I should leave one for
someone else.  But didn't.)

Haven't tried it yet.

Oh crud.  Maybe they got it the day we took our daughter to RI.
And you know, I checked S&S down there when I was near one "just
in case".  Now I'm unhappy.  Guess I'm gonna have to go out in the
snow showers and do some scouting.

Hey all is fair in love and low carb, lol. Before lowcarb tortillas were
made by the other companies (and better) I would buy up the large La
Tortilla ones whenever I found them, because I just liked the larger ones
and they were hard to find. One store carried them but sometimes they'd have
them, sometimes not. I bought 10 packages of them one day, all they had
left.. they freeze really well.. didn't feel the least bit guilty either.

I can't find it in Dallas either. Personally, I'm not a ketchup person. But my
husband LOVES it, and I'd like to find some for him.

Kroger has it now.  And they have low carb tortillas and bread.

I've always been able to find the tortillas there. (not interested in bread)
And my husband even came home with the Lawrys Carb Options steak sauce from
there. But no ketchup yet. :-(

You and hubby should look for the SMALL bottles when scanning for
ketchup.  That is the only size of OneCarb ketchup that they carried.

And the label doesn't look like the regular, mostly-white Heinz label
either.  In fact, when I looked for it recently, I stared intently at the
rows and rows of Heinz variants, and didn't see the low-carb one.
Disappointed, I decided to read the shelf-labels to see if the store at
least carried it sometimes, and was out of it at the moment.  I found the
"one-carb" label, looked right above it, and there were two bottles of the
stuff right on the shelf.  I had skipped right over them in my origuinal
search, because they didn't look like what I thought I was looking for: the
label is green and red, and the print is kind of swirly, rather than the
black-block-letters on white background that all of the other Heinz
products had.

I checked for it again today at the supermarket.

Nothing here in the Silicon Valley.

Their website sells various Ketchups online, but not the new 1 carb stuff.

Thanks, this stuff IS good:) Frankly most of the low carb stuff I have tried
is too yucky. I had this today with my LC meatloaf, fresh green beans and I
was in heaven!

Ya'll do know you can make your own, and it tastes just like the regular
stuff, right?

From the archives:
-------------
12 oz. Tomato paste (I use Contadina)
12. oz water
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 cup white vinegar
5 Equal tablets (or 4-5 splenda packets/8-10 bulk tsp splenda, or to
taste)
1 Tablespoon salt

   Preparing
Dissolve Equal tablets in water (I use tablets instead of packets
because they have 1/5 the grams). Combine all ingredients. Tastes a lot
like real  Heinz to me.

54 grams in the entire recipe (using PP counts).
1gram per tablespoon (about 1/4 regular Heinz).
-------------

If you want to use splenda, try 4-5 packets (or 8-10 tsp bulk), or
season to taste.  (54 g + 5 splenda packets + 59 g which doesn't change
the gram count per tablespoon significantly at all).

I added a tsp of garlic and cayanne to mine-- made it seem more like the
spicy Hunt's brand which I like better than Heinz.  Oh, I also added a
tsp or so of xanthan gum to help it thicken up to the proper
consistency.

A lady came up to me on the street, pointed at my suede jacket and
said, "Don't you know a cow was murdered for that jacket?" I said, "I
didn't know there were any witnesses. Now I'll have to kill you too".

Thank you for posting that. I hadn't seen it before and I just made
some. It tastes great, and the price is sure right. :-)

Yup, made it before and it's good....however, I really like the convenience
of buying ketchup in the container and this product tastes very good, unlike
some of the LC ketchup I have purchased in the past. Also, this was not
expensive, another selling point. I get tired of making everything from
scratch too:)

I haven't seen it in my local supermarket yet.  I am wondering:  does
anyone know if this One-Carb ketchup has any ingredients that would be
considered no-no's by Atkins?  Besides the alternate sweetener, does
it have any sugars...like the "ose's"--dextrose, etc. or
..."dextrin's" , fructose, corn syrup, or even hydrogenated oils?

The only sweetener used is splenda and it contains no other sugar,
sugar alcohols, etc.
