Hi

Am finding that I crave snacks at night. This is probably because my
traditional midnight snack was cereal or toast. Seems a hard habit to break.

What goodies do you keep handy for these evening snacks?

Most of us probably aren't in danger of eating too little. :)

I am glad you are breaking that habit.  It doesn't get much worse than
eating cereal for a late night snack.  You might as well have had a bunch of
ice cream.

I snack on cheese, left-over meat, pork rinds, beef jerky and the like.

Just do not eat at night. If you are hungry, tough it out. Drink some
water. You won't die from being hungry for a couple of nights. Like
you, I was a night time snacker. Then I decided to not eat after 6pm
(which makes it convenient for me to eat dinner after I get home from
work). Had a few hungry nights (maybe 3-4) and after that, I am never
really hungry at night anymore, and it has been 9+ months since Igave
up night time eating.

Somehow some people (which included me a year ago) think that being
hungry is such a terrible thing that even being temporarily hungry for
a few hours should be avoided at all costs. I think that it is
bullshit.

This assumes that you are basically a relatively healthy person who is
not suffering from some horrendous hypoglycemia or any other special
condition.

SF jello. But JC has the best answer. If it's a habit that could derail you
down the road, you might want to try and break it once and for all. JMHO

I did that, and could not be happier about this change. No more night
eating, I enjoy better sleep, etc.

It's never been a problem for me. Probably because I go to bed at 9. I have
a friend who's always been thin. He's in his 70's and looks great. Like you
i, he never eats after 6.
His motto about eating is * Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince
and dinner like a pauper.* Sure has worked for him.

I would kill for being able to go to bed at 9pm...

It's better not to eat at night after dinner.  If I have the munchies,
however, I just cannot get to sleep.  I've found that drinking a glass of
water helps me to feel full enough to sleep. I have to get up in the middle
of the night to pee, but it's better than not being able to sleep at all or
consuming food I don't need.  I suppose a cup of hot non-caffenated tea
would work too.

I have only 3 flaws.  My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

Go to bed at 11:30!

Really, if you have this vision of losing weight...visualize those stomach growling noises as lbs leaving...it will help.  When I go to bed "hungry", I'm reasonably assured that my weight will be down in the morning...as I'm actively trying to lose weight. I realize if you aren't actively trying, then that's another thing.

I snack on cheese, or stuffed celery stick with the new Carb-Smart peanut
butter or cream cheese...   try 5 green olives or a cheese/lunch meat roll
up, hot drink and 1 oz of almonds, lots of crunch there.   To fill you up at
night, once in awhile, I drink an Atkins Advantage or a cup of the new low
carb chocolate milk, it fills up all the cracks, but we really need to focus
on no food after 8pm,. just alot of hot water, then you're up all night in
the potty of course   lol  but you're not hungry.   CHEESE is your best bet,
always.

That goes for me too.
If I stay up late I get hungry before bed so I usually have a nice hunk o'
savory cheese waiting the refrigerator for me. I like Blarney cheese or an
expensive Gouda ... very satisfying.
