Went to the Oriental Market today to buy shiratake noodles and bought
a package of seaweed nori sheets on a whim. Each sheet is 8" by 8".
The nutritional info on the package says 5 sheets per serving, with a
total of 1 carb, but since most of the writing on the package is in
Japanese I can't verify too much of the nutritional information. The
only ingredient shown is "Seaweed, Dried." Googling previous posts
shows that other people have tried them over the years, and they are
low-carb. Violet (oldtimers will remember her) used them as a snack
for added fiber.

I used one of the sheets to make a lovely salmon salad wrap for lunch.
The meal was delicious. The sheet held together and added a delicate,
almost tea-like flavor. Next time I think I'll use some Wasabi to
spike the flavor a bit.

I don't know if'll eat one of these "wraps" every day, but they're a
nice change from my usual romain lettuce wrapping material.

That is a terrific idea!   I love Nori anyway.   It has a great flavor and
has been used to wrap rice and veggies forever.   So we can use it to wrap
low carb items instead.

I don't know why I never thought of it!

Oooh nice, and real food too!  Good for someone like me who does not
consume wheat, other glutenous grains, or soy.

This is a nice idea and one I will be trying soon.  Thanks!

Ditto. I like seeweed more than I liked the LC tortillas I had. Although, I
did have an Atkins wrap at Subway and the tortilla did not seem as nasty as
the ones I bought.

I frequently prepare nori wraps with salmon, cucumber, shaved tomato, avocado
and Wasabi cream cheese with a side of pickled ginger.

Other times I'll just use cream cheese and mackerel.

do you make your own wasabi cream cheese, eff?  & if so, could you share
the gist of it?

Trial and error.  :-)  Mix wasabi powder with a dash of H20, then blend in cream
cheese.  Or thinly spread on top of cream cheese.

Do the Nori wraps need to be prep'd in any way prior to use,
soaked in water or anything?

I was told that it is best (flavor wise) to hold it high over a gas stove
flame and lightly toast it before rolling.  That is what the Japanese do.
It will change color ever so slightly, but the flavor becomes more nutty.

I haven't toasted them in a while.  Thanks for the reminder.
