To be honest with ya. Don't eat things that 'might' have them. Eat real
foods. The foods that are on the 'accepted foods list'. Eat whole veggies,
good meats, cheeses, some nuts here and there, seeds, and good whole spices.
You don't have a problem with 'hidden carbs'.

Hi, Terri. Welcome to the group. I'm not awake yet, so I'll let
someone else answer. Just wanted to say hi!

I was told this method:
Multiply fat grams x 9 = fat calories
protein grams x 4 = protein calories
take these both away from the total calories,
this leaves the carb calories.
Divide this figure by 4 to give carb grams.
Not very elegant, but I think it works.

Demon News explained it. A gram of protein or carb has about 4 calories.
A gram of fat has about 9. Fiber should have none. Sugar alcohols have from
.07 (ethythritol) to 2 (Lacitol) to 3 (Maltitol). Fiber has almost 0.
If the total calories computed from the carb/fat/protein numbers given
doesn't match the total given on the label, be suspicious.

I just buy fresh meats, vegetables and make all of my own condiments. There
are too many pre-packaged foods with strange additives and I don't want to
be bothered with having to calculate "hidden" items on a daily basis. One
way to evaluate potentially "bad" foods is to look at the ingredients.
Learn about the different names sugar can fall under. Also look for
starches. I avoid them because I want to keep my blood sugars as stable as
possible and would rather spend my carbs on more nutritious items.

I've lost 40 lbs on the Atkins program. I just recently discovered a
great on line forum at http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/
they have answers for you as well the opportunity to ask questions and

Give it a try, I'm sure the site will be helpfull.
Good Luck!

Keep a look out for any substance ending with "ol" or "ose" most
likely sugar alcohols. If you are lucky, they will run right through
you, and I mean fast. If you are not, they can be absorbed and turned
into glucose.
