I have been following Atkins WOE for almost year and over the past 4 months
have increased my exercise level.
I'll be doing several fund raining walk/run events over the next two months
and people are telling me that I should not just drink water when it gets
warmer and the events get longer leading to more sweat and loss of
electrolytes. They say Gatorade or some other athletic beverage is needed in
this case.
Any suggestions on a low carb drink for electrolyte replacement?
Thanks in advance.

You know, it's amazing that human beings got along just fine for thousands of
years with water. And an average day's work for a lot of that time was a hell
of a lot more strenuous than almost any athletic event.

True. Then again, they died at 30. OK, maybe not exactly. But close.

We're all at once less and more healthy than our ancestors.

They died at 30 from dehydration?

Gatorade is Koolaid with salt and potassium (electrolites).  You can
purchase Morton's Light Salt (half salt and half potassium).  Just add
about 1/4 teaspoon of the lite salt to sugar free koolaid, crystal
lite, water, or any other drink.

But doesn't the small amount of sugar also work as an electrolyte? A
doctor said to me when I said salt in my water in the summer works for
me, that it can be dangerous to only add salt, as it is a balance
between salt, potassium, AND sugar.

And to the person who replied water is just fine because humans have
done well on that for ages:

An entire platoon of Danish troops in Iraq almost died because they only
had pure water and their rations didn't contain enough electrolytes so
they got dehydrated. Then they bought american rations (which I think
contains powder gatorade or similar), and they were fine.
Even I get dizzy in the afternoon if I dont add electrolytes to my water
in the summer.

Sugar is not an electrolyte.

It can be dangerous to take in too much potassium which is very easy to do
if it's dissolved in liquid since it can be consumed in large quantities
very quickly. I'm sure that's why essense suggested adding only a small
amount.

Mike,

Dr. Bernstein suggests making a diabetic hydration drink like this:

1 quart water
1 teaspoon table salt
1/4 teaspoon Mortons [all potassium]  salt substitute

You buy the potassium salt substitute in the grocery store where it is
usually stocked in the baking section with salt.

Add Lite salt to sugarfree Kool-Aid or Crystal Lite.
I'd try about 1/4 teaspoon to a quart.
