Splenda Question

Hi Guys,
Been lurking for a while cos i'm a newbie and to be honest all my questions
up to now have been answered in some shape or form. I've been on induction
(atkins) for two weeks now, have stuck rigidly to the rules, and so far lost
15lbs (Yippeee!!). I still get sugar cravings though, sometimes quite bad,
and now i'd like to make some low-carb cheesecake as a reward. The thing is,
the only form of Splenda i can get my hands on over here (Ireland) are the
little "pill" types. Can somebody tell me if it is possible to use these in
cooking by either crushing them or dissolving them in a small amount of hot
water?
Thanks very much in advance.
Keep on keepin on....

You should be able to crush the pill types, and mix with a liquid in the recipe, you may want to use a different
substitute along with it also. thats my suggestion, don't know if it will work, also try to mail order the splenda from
England or somewhere. hope that helps.

You can get a good form of liquid sweetness made with the pure sucralose,
and no fillers here;

I take you've ordered a bit from there. How is the stuff? Does it work
pretty well?  And how good are they on quick shipping?

Thanks!

She's the one who sells it.

I ordered and received mine. There was a delay - a few weeks, but that
was stated when I ordered so no surprises there. It is good, but I
can't vouch for the ingredients. I'm not a scientist. Or a brain
surgeon.

You should be able to dissolve them in the liquid used in a recipe.
We've heard they have them in Australia, too.  The tablets have a lot
less filler than the bulk and packets/sachets.  10 or 12 tablets to the
gram of filler.

If I recall correctly, a tablet replaces one teaspoon sugar, so that
would be 48 tablets for a "cup."

Reward?
and please don't take this as a direct personal attack, because it isn't
intended that way. I just read posts like this often and it never ceases
to amaze me. Why do people constantly feel they need to be rewarded for
something they should have been doing in the first place. Your "reward"
is that YES you lost 15 lbs and you discovered that you can! My
"rewards" are in better living, better feeling, knowing when I put my
jeans on they wont be as snug. I feel that once people stop seeing food
as a "reward" or as a recreation or a prize for a job well done, half
the battle is over. In my opinion, break free from that mentality of
rewarding yourself.

Food is fuel.

Actually, you are dead right...I'm just off out now to flog myself with
chains, then put on my hairshirt and say pennance for my sins. I'd say it's
great craic round your house alright. Life is for living for cryin out loud,
lighten up. Each to his/her own, but i know that i am much more likely to
stick to this WOE longterm if i have the odd (low-carb) reward, so frankly
you stick to your opinions and i'll stick to mine. Funny how people always
say "Don't take this personally....", just before they launch into a
personal attack.

I don't see the problem with a reward. The reward being food, which is what
caused the problem in the first place, is kind of wrong though.

I use these all the time.  I crush them in a small bowl with the back of a
lemon reamer.  sort of an improvised mortar and pestle.

I find it mixes well with recipes and I don't have to add it to liquid
first.

If you're not sure you can resist eating the whole cheesecake in a few
days, you might want to try just taking a blob of cream cheese, add
some vanilla or almond extract (think you call it "essence"?) and the
crushed Splenda.  Smash it all together with a fork or spoon and there
you go...you can enjoy a single serving that will serve its purpose.
Much less work than making the cheesecake.  Good luck, whatever you
decide.
