Do you always start a diet on Monday, I used to think that was the only
day I could begin. But I started Atkins on a Wednesday in August 2003. I
woke up and felt so horrible and thought enough of feeling like this.

With Atkins, it's best to start on a Thursday because of the expected
carb flu (so you can be at home in comfort during the worst of it).  But
many people start on a Monday, because we are conditioned to think of it
as the begining of the week.

I started on a Saturday. It is a good idea to start towards a weekend,
when you are off work for a day or two. Or at home for a few days,
whatever days that can be. So as to handle withdrawls and such better
in the comfort of your own home.  When I quit smoking, I did the same
thing.

I agree that it's sensible to start on a weekend, especially for low carb
plans in which some people suffer some effects of carb withdrawal (mine were
mild but others have reported feeling quite ill for a couple of days).  I
happened to have started on a Monday, which worked well for me for several
reasons - it also happened to be the first of the month (12/1/03) which
makes it easy for me to recall how long I've been at it.  And, it was the
first day after my family scattered after gathering here for Thanksgiving.
I had to throw away some good leftovers, though.  Particularly painful was
tossing out a half a dozen bagels - from Kupel's, for those of you who are
familiar with the finest bagels in Boston.  ouch!

I think we usually start (or re-start) on Monday ... I figure if I'm going
to feel like crap I may as well be at work rather than letting it ruin my
weekend

:o)

(incidentally the crappiness of withdrawal is directly proportionate to the
length of time off the wagon - more than a day or two and I regret it)

Choosing Monday or any future date for a diet seems strange to me.  Once one
has had the epiphany that it really might be possible to lose weight using
low carb, the time to start is NOW ("NOW" being whenever the epiphany was).

Starting on a wednesday makes sense to me. My worst days were days
3,4,5 which would be Fri/sat/sun. You would have more control those
days and be able to feel crappy at home. I was lucky, I was at home
all the time, so I started on a monday.
