I've made a new promise to myself:  to no longer get sucked into flame threads

I've made a new promise to myself to no longer get sucked into threads that
feature flame wars having to do with OT subjects like politics and religion,
and nothing to do with low-carb eating.
We hopefully all have at least one thing in common -- our low-carb way of
eating -- and I'm going to try to concentrate on the positive as well as try
to give and receive the support that we're basically all here for.

One of the beauties of the usenet is that it brings people from all walks of
life together for a common purpose, and I'm turning my attention back to
that purpose and am going back to ignoring the differences.  I'll leave
exploring those differences to others.  I've come too far and still have too
far to go in improving my health through my low-carb plan to risk alienating
anyone who just might have that one answer or unique piece of advice that I
need to improve my health or help my weight loss.

I fully support the right for anyone to post an OT subject; and I'm not
saying that I won't post to OT threads.  But I'm not ugly or nasty by
nature, and I don't like what happens when I get caught up in the flame
wars.   It's too easy in this anonymous medium to say hurtful or hateful
things that I wouldn't say to someone in person, and I always feel badly
afterwards when that happens.  And it's really, really stupid that I've
allowed myself on occassion to get my own feelings hurt by people who may be
halfway across the country or the world, know very little about me, and who
have no direct impact on my life one way or the other.  I can't believe what
an idiot I've been lately by letting myself get caught up in these
irrelevant political and religious flame wars on ASDLC!

Lord knows I'm way far from perfect and will probably slip up occassionally,
but I'm going to make an honest attempt live up to this promise.

Flamelessly,
Peter           :-)

I skip MANY A THREAD for this same reason.  I no longer have the problems
that I had (when I first came here) being part of the UseNet community.  But
then again, I do notice that a certain "someone" no longer posts here......

Wonder if she disappeared along with Violet and Myra?

That certain "someone" pops back in from time to time, depending on her
needs at the time.  Someone is usually left bloody :)

Can you give a clue as to who it is?   I'd like to know who to avoid
in advance.

Okey dokey.

Clue#1:  google Carol Ann, size, and lying.
Clue #2:  the referenced person was known by three different names.
Her handle, what she signed her posts with, and her real name.

Have fun!

Ah, now I know who you mean!

She could be side-splittingly funny too. I miss those funny posts.

Yeah, well.  I guess her funny didn't outweigh the outright nasty for
me, or the double standard she had.

I don't kow how you missed it; t was the grandaddy of all flame wars .. well
over 600 posts so far and still going strong!  The original post was by
Evelyn R on 3/6/2004 @ 9:53 a.m., subject was:  OT; Gay marriage, George
Bush and Judeo/Christian values.

It was a real doozie!

Oh - that makes me feel better; I was afraid it was your exchange with me on
the "fat tax" thread that had you running for the hills.  :-)  I don't mind
the occasional OT chit-chat - but I stayed away from the gay marriage
discussion.  I can talk tax policy with anyone, but gay marriage is just too
emotional of an issue for me to publicly discuss with people whose views
oppose my own.

Heck, Carla, you and I just had a frriendly little fireside chat compared to
what went on in the Gay Mariage/Religion thread!  :-)

Shouldn't you have put "OT" in the subject line :)

Good man, it takes some balls to admit a promite like that.

All the best, may your willpower be stronger than the temptation to flame!
