Well, I went with Crash last night to check out the regular gym in town,
and I was very impressed. They've got a LOT of circuit training equipment,
and a thingamajij for working on your abdominal muscles. And the machines
aren't over-crowded. Seemed that most people prefered to work on the
treadmills and the thingies that you stand up on, and go through a
bike-riding motion.
I signed on along with him. The second person is half price, and we'll be
saving about $20 a month by my switching to the gym instead of Curves. I'm
also hoping that we'll provide motivation to each other to keep going. We
both look at least 6 months pregnant at this point, and we also need to
strengthen our back muscles to avoid recurring back pain.
We have our training session this afternoon. Our individualized plans will
take our various injuries into account, and we'll completely avoid a couple
things.
I'll keep y'all posted after we've gone through our orientation. Thanks
for listening!

You got the hardest part done .....getting started! The secret to success:
Just get started and keep going and eventually you'll get there.

If the handles don't move, it's an elliptical trainer. If they do,
it's a cross trainer. At least, that's what ours are called.

<G> Thanks! I don't think their arms were moving, so they must have been
eliptical trainers. (I'm glad you told me!)

I recently switched from Curves to Gold's gym. So far, I like it a lot but
I miss my friends at Curves. My husband says I'll make new friends;-). I
have some muscle soreness which I did not experience at Curves but I think
that means I am working my muscles more.
Good luck with your training.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. It's nice not to have any stiffness or
soreness after leaving Curves, but I agree with you that you should feel
*something* after you finish a workout. Not pain, but at least stretched
muscles.

Thanks so much, Camille. This is new territory for me, but I'm really
looking forward to it!

We went for orientation and our first workout yesterday afternoon, and
we're loving it! My legs feel a little tired today, and Crash really
overdid it, but we're both glad we're going.
My plan includes NO cardio, until I get used to moving my sorry a$$ again.
Otherwise, my heart rate goes through the roof. At Curves, I had a lot of
problems with that. With the new set-up, I just had a little mild flushing
of my skin, but no pounding pulse in my head and neck. After a session at
Curves, I appeared to have a bad sunburn. Not good.
The other things I prefer at the new gym are the fact that weights and
repetitions can be increased as I get in better shape, and there are a
couple of machines that really work the abdominal muscles. I just think
that the machines there provide a more complete overall workout. I'm glad
we joined.
