Chinese restaurant & progress

My wife and I tried a new Chinese restaurant in town which was a challenge
after being on LC for just 15 days. I had the hot & sour soup for starters
and did their Mongolian BBQ as the main entree (you pick all the
ingredients and they grill it for you). I stayed with green veggies,
mushrooms, a very few bean sprouts and a few snow pea pods with mainly pork
and chicken. The sauce they cook it in worried me some as there was nothing
to indicate what was in it and the cook spoke very little English. For
dessert we attacked the steamed crab legs and garlic shrimp. :) I thought
skipping the typical fried rice, crab Rangoon, egg rolls and hot braised
chicken would have been harder but it wasn't hard at all...

Does anyone know how many carbs are in a typical hot & sour soup? The
entire meal must have been relatively low in carbs as my blood sugar was
lower 4 hours later than before I ate (I know it wasn't an insulin dump as
I am a Type II). :)

As to progress, at first I was going to follow Atkins but had a hard time
sticking with the foods on the induction list. I still limited the daily
carbs to about 20 grams per day. In 15 days I am down 11 pounds. More
importantly, I have used a total of 55U of Lantus during that span. Before
LC, I was shooting 85U of Lantus every night and still had a 14 day meter
average of 148. This morning my meter average was 125 and dropping...

I can't wait to see the endo next month for some blood work as he was
against my doing LC (my general doctor was all for it)...

Dave

You might want to check a site such as http://www.calorieking.com

I checked and found a range of 2 grams to 25 grams of carbs per bowl of hot
& sour. Most of the restaurants here have similar ingredients so I don't
understand the large spread. The Mongolian BBQ on the web site had noodles
and rice listed as ingredients (which I didn't use) so that data would not
work either... :(

Thanks for the link though as I am sure it will work great on other
foods...

Instead of going out to restaurants, try doing some exercise.

Most of us probably aren't in danger of eating too little. :)

I was warned about you. I read several of your 'witty' posts directed at
others but decided to give you the benefit of the doubt. Now you used your
allotment of 'wit' with me so <PLONK> to the kill file!!! ;)

There you go.

That's much easier than losing weight.

[part about Mongolian BBQ snipped]

> Does anyone know how many carbs are in a typical hot & sour soup?

Dave,

I have a packet of Kikkoman Egg Flower (Hot & Sour) Soup mix which requires
1 beaten egg.  According to the nutrition info, a 1-cup serving has 6g
carbs.
