Induction question

Elissa - 17 Mar 2004 22:32 GMT I started induction on Monday and have been keeping my carbs around 15 grams a day. Yesterday I started feeling lightheaded and dizzy, and today I feel worse. It's worse when I rise from a sitting position. Is it normal to feel this way while in induction? I've already lost 2 pounds, if it matters.
Thanks in advance, Elissa
DJ Delorie - 17 Mar 2004 22:51 GMT > I started induction on Monday and have been keeping my carbs around > 15 grams a day. Eat more veggies if you want. There's no real purpose in going below 20 during Induction. Note, however, that lots of things have small amounts of carbs - eggs, cheese, etc. See http://www.delorie.com/health/ns/ for more accurate net carb counts.
> Is it normal to feel this way while in induction? Yes. It should go away soon. If it lasts more than a week, try adding more veggies to get your carb counts up to 20.

shuffle - 18 Mar 2004 00:11 GMT I have begun the same day as you - on Monday. I haven't had such lightheadedness, but have been eating a fair bit of vegetables, so maybe there is some truth to this. I figure my carbs are right around 20 - certainly no more than 25. I have had some mild headaches, though. They are getting better now on the third day.
One thing I am quite impressed is the lack of hunger...it's already been very surprising...

Is your blood pressure low, by chance?

The Dude - 18 Mar 2004 02:46 GMT If this is your first time trying Induction and you had a high carb diet before, it is normal - it happened to me twice already in the past. It usually happens on day 3 - at least for me. I quit Atkins my last two times and never got past day 3. However over the last few months I've cut down on carbs and have erased sugar from my diet. I am currently on day 7 of induction and I have not had any sick feelings at all. I attribute it to the fact that I gave up sugar and I have somewhat phased myself into induction. Oh yeah, exercise may help too. I have started walking 2.5 miles each day.

I needed a nap (rare) 3rd day in induction.

Years ago when the Atkins diet was referred to as the Air Force diet, the Drinking Man's diet, etc. I would start the first week with NO carbs at all.., just meat, chicken, fish, eggs, and hot water or weak tea. I knew I would have a bad headache around the 3rd day so I would make that a Saturday or Sunday and treat it like a bad hangover, like that's what it actually is!! You are breaking down your stored fat, and in that fat there are loads of poisons and impurities.., BUT if you stick with it.., by day 7-8 you will start feeling better than you EVER have in the past!! Now, go out and do the right thing!!! :o)
JC Der Koenig - 18 Mar 2004 19:03 GMT It seems like such a simple thing.

And I forgot to mention don't even think of doing any walking or exercise during the first couple of weeks. When you start feeling good your body will let you know when to start moving.!!! :o)
Elissa - 18 Mar 2004 19:04 GMT Thanks for all the replies! My blood pressure does tend to be on the low side, and I probably haven't been drinking enough water either. After posting yesterday I had dinner and a snack, along with three large glasses of water, and I felt better almost immediately. Today is day four and I already have more energy than the same day last week.
Thanks again for the advice and support, this is a great group.

Bigmista - 18 Mar 2004 23:14 GMT Hello folx!
My name is Neil and I just started this "WOE" today. I'm not sure I have a good grasp of this induction process. Perhaps if I told you what I had to eat so far today, you all could give me some insight.
Breakfast 2 eggs scrambled in butter 1 4" piece of smoked sausage
Lunch 3 Chicken Thighs from El Pollo Loco 1 cup steamed veggies (I only ate the broccoli & cauliflower. No carrots) 3/4 cup coleslaw Raspberry Iced Tea w/ Sweet & Low.
According to fitday.com I have had 20g of Carbs so far. Am I on the right track?
I'd appreciate any help you could offer.
Thanks!
Neil

> I'd appreciate any help you could offer. Hi Neil,
Commercially prepared cole slaw often quite a bit of sugar added to it. If there's vinegar in it, that'll contribute carbs too, although not much.
Also, many commercial sausages have added sugar. Make sure yours doesn't, and make sure (if you're on Atkins) you're not eating the low-fat version of a smoked sausage, which Fitday says has nearly 16 carbs in one serving!
But hey--no junk food, no potatoes, no flour. That's pretty good.

[?] - 19 Mar 2004 05:13 GMT Breakfast was good, but you could add in a half sliced tomato with mayonnaise. Lunch was great, but the slaw until maybe the 2nd/3rd week. I usually have a small steak (or large if you want) with butter or mayo, and a little salad.., I'm a diet Pepsi guy, but no caffeine type. Also, I forgot to mention that I know my diet is working when I have the worst nightmares ever for a couple nights.., but if you have'em.., just start listen to Art Bell show.!! (smile)
Eileen Dougal - 19 Mar 2004 08:30 GMT I love Art Bell.

It was very helpful. This is what I had for the rest of the day...
Snack 2 slices of smoked Turkey wrapped around some cream cheese
Dinner Chicken Caesar Salad from Quizno's w/o croutons. (We went to the movie. It was the best thing I could find)
Late Night (because the salad did nothing for me!) Low Carb $6 burger from Carl's Jr. (Low Carb means no bun.) I think I messed up on this because I forgot to tell them no ketchup.
My plans for today:
Breakfast: 1 hardboiled egg (I was running late.)
MidMorning Snack 2 pieces of Baked Chicken (l leg, 1 thigh)
Lunch Tunafish salad (no pickle relish or sugar)
Afternoon Snack 2 pieces of Baked Chicken (l leg, 1 thigh)
Dinner Prime Rib, Salad, Steamed Veggies. (We're going to Lawry's for a b-day party)
I don't even know if you all are interested in what I'm eating, but I'm new at this and I wam inclined to share.
Let me know if I talk too much! *smile*
