How I Handled My Vacation (or I Blew It!)

Well, I knew it was going to be tough.  A company sponsored trip to an
all-inclusive resort in Cancun.  It was fantastic, thank you very much, but
man was it hard!  First was the plane trip: we leave home at 4AM to catch a
7AM flight.  No food until the stewardess brought the 'snack' package at
8:30ish (two crackers, cheese, a big strawberry fig newton thing and a
chocolate).  Didn't think to bring something better and since I was
starving, I ate it.  And heck, since it's vacation, and I need a smoke, we
hit the airport bar at the first layover.  Yep, had a beer at 9AM.  No 'low
carb' beer served either.  (But it was fun being a little decadent!)
Finally, we make it to Mexico at 1PM and boy am I hungry!  We head for the
first food stop we find - a snack bar/restaurant by the pool.  Hmmm, should
I have nachos or nachos?  Well, nachos it is, with ALL the fixin's.  Suffice
to say, that although I tried to be good, there were way too many
temptations.  Maybe drinking all those Cuba Libres (Bacardi and Diet) didn't
exactly help with my willpower. And boy, did we put them away!  I can't
imagine that there's any rum left in all of Mexico since my visit!  On the
bright side, I did get way more exercise in Cancun than I ever do at home -
swimming and walking for hours every day and let's not even mention the
disco at the hotel where we danced away several hours of every night!

I woke up the morning after my return to be hit with a mega-case of edema,
exhaustion, a peeling nose and 8 pounds of water weight.  But I am back on
track and two days later in ketosis and am so glad to be back in my little
carb-controlled environment where I buy the food I want (need) and can avoid
those temptations!

I loved my vacation, but realize just how hard it is to travel while trying
to maintain the WOE.  I will be better prepared next time.  :-)

Adios amigos!

You'll have a hard time maintaining this WOE no matter the environment.
Because that's just how you are.

Most of us probably aren't in danger of eating too little. :)

Not so.  I just wasn't as prepared as I should have been.
But thanks for your input. Although I must say, I was waiting for a better
slam from you!  You must be tired tonight.   :-)

which is exactly the point.

you were not prepared, whereas if you really wanted to do the right
thing, you would be prepared. Just how much foresight does it take to
tke a bunch of food from home, for the plane at least.

Well, even if you didn't take any food from home, one could still make a lot
better choices if one tries. I say J Costello just wanted a vacation from
dieting, which of course, is his/her choice.

For example, J Costello could simply skip eating on the plane.

I was on an all inclusive vacation near Cancun also (although, likely,
at a different resort).

The food choices were not nearly as bad as described, in fact, the
food was plainly excellent. Plenty of low carb food, plenty of
vegetables and fruits, plenty of salads, beans, etc etc. Even at those
snack shacks on the beach.

I wonder if Jcostello also wanted to suffer from edema etc.

Probably not, but the mind leads people to funny places....part of being an
irrational human...
