Still stalled, and now I'm annoyed

Got weighed and measured at Curves today.  I've been stalled since January,
and I've been accepting it as a natural plateau, but now it's gone on too
long and I'm not liking it.  Not only did nothing go down, but my BF%, ab,
and thigh measurements actually went up.

The frustrating part is that I HAVE been eating less and exercising more. I
work out 5 - 6 days a week now, weight training 3 days a week and some sort
of cardio the other days (yoga, swimming, jogging, dancing, aerobics, etc).
I stopped eating nuts, I'm limiting cheese to 2 - 3 servings a week, I'm
using a lot less butter and oil in cooking, and less salad dressing on my
salads.  I never eat enough to feel "stuffed" but I never eat so little as
to feel hungry either.  Guess it's time to start letting myself feel hungry
most of the time. And guess it's time to start doing cardio every day.

Eat less and exercise more, in a scientifically incremental fashion.

Most of us probably aren't in danger of eating too little. :)

yep....go hungry before each meal and do lots of cardio...don't quit
lifting...and consider counting....

I would not worry at all about it, you can afford to go slow at this
point. Ihad the same experience. Losing weight while at normal weight
is atrociously difficult.

I think maybe that you, like me, need to actually count your calories
instead of just eye-balling a reduction. I tried that, and it is too easy to
slip up on.

Try more cardio, say 3 days and less lifting, one to two days. Also, try
some four limb exercise-moving legs and using light weights in hands.  This
will help you sculpt muscle and loose fat. You have probably gained muscle
mass under you fatty tissue from weight lifting.  This is a good thing.
This extra muscle will eventually help eat away at the fat!  I actual weigh
more, but have smaller measurements since I started the Firm workouts. Once
your muscle kicks in to burning the fat, you should loose some inches.
Sometimes the scale can be your worst enemy.  I highly recommend The Firm
workouts.   Keep exercising, it's great for you, and don't go hungry, just
modify diet a bit.  Good luck!

Lori, hon, that sounds like good advice, it really does, but (and this is
not meant as an insult) I have a problem.  Call it a mental block or call
me an anal-retentive bitch if you want, but I have a difficult time taking
anyone seriously who keeps typing "loose" instead of "lose."

I have a thing about it too....but "lose" is a commonly misspelled
word...especially so in diet groups :)

A partner in my firm once tried to "correct" my spelling of "lose" in a memo
I wrote for her.  I can't quite recall the context - it might have been a
phrase like "this is a losing argument."  I told her my spelling was
correct.  I was pretty shocked - I really would not have thought that a
person thinking carefully (especially an educated person) could make that
error.  The care applied in creating USENET posts is one thing; that in
legal work product should be quite another.

Personally, I find I can actually loose more when I have eaten one
large carb filled meal during the week. It's as if it throws my body
off and causes it to loose more weight when I return to low-carb the
next day.

I also have been told if I eat too little, my body will go into
"starvation" and not loose anything... may you actually have to add
back some calories to loose again.
JC Der Koenig - 19 Mar 2004 20:51 GMT
Are you spelling "lose" as "loose" just to get on people's nerves? Just
wondering.

Sorry Luna, spelling has never been one of my strong points, and the darn
spell check let this one through.  If I can't laugh at myself, who can I
laugh at.  Sorry about the spelling, hopefully, it won't happen again.

I'm glad you didn't take offense.  I think it's just my hang-up,
personally.  I should probably just ignore it.  I don't expect spelling
perfection, the occasional typo doesn't bother me in the least, but for
some reason certain common mistakes really irk me. It also drives me up the
wall when people use "internet shorthand" like typing "U" instead of "You."
Whenever people I don't know instant message me with "hi, how R U?" I can't
help but picture them as either 13 years old or severely mentally retarded.

The worst has to be "ppl" instead of people. <shudder!> Even my 2nd grader

Yup, looks like.  Ok, back to using Fitday.  Something interesting about
that.  I can never get an accurate picture of how I "normally" eat when I
start journalling, though, because the very act of having to measure and
write stuff down makes me self-conscious, which makes me eat less. Either
that or writing and carrying a notebook burns more calories than I thought
it did.  ;o)

Make sure you have an accurate scale, too.  I use the tare function on
my digital scale ALL THE TIME.  I wish I had gotten it a long time
ago.

And what's wrong with that?  You already know your "normally" eating
doesn't work for losing weight.  Consider the journal a diet aid!

Print the daily food form.  It's only a single sheet of paper, you
shouldn't work up a sweat carrying it around ;-)

Luna are you doing Atkins or SBD or some other general LC diet?
How many carbs a day are you eating?
Do you have any medications or typical stalling foods in your diet?
Did you introduce anything in January into the diet?

I'd try a variety of things.  First, up your protein.  You could be losing
muscle mass.  Alternatively, you could be gaining muscle mass, which can
increase your measurements (personally, unless the bodyfat is 100%
accurate, I'd ignore it).  I've been gaining muscle mass (as evidenced by
the mirror and weights), and my waist has gone up, not down.  Also,
increase your calories and perhaps carbs for one day a week.  In other
words, do something different.  I've often found that I lose the most
weight after I splurge.  (Not always true, but is true most times, as long
as I get back to my groove.)
