Planning my menu for tomorrow

So, since I'm sick of this stall, I decided to plan my menu for tomorrow
using Fitday.  I entered in what I thought looked like plenty of food,

2 large eggs scrambled with a slice of cheese, cooked in a tablespoon of
butter for breakfast

a large salad (4 cups of salad greens) with a quarter grilled chicken
breast, 2 tablespoons of ranch dressing for lunch

2 cups of brocolli with a tablespoon of butter and a 4 ounce hamburger
patty with mustard for dinner

When I calculated the calories for that, it came out to 1169, and I was all
"That can't be right, that's pretty much how I eat on a daily basis, with
some variations that shouldn't make a huge calorie difference (like shrimp
instead of chicken in my salad, a pork chop instead of a burger, etc) So
how can my calories be so low and I'm not losing weight?"

Then it hit me!  I forgot the coffee!  With half & half!  And lots of it!
When I entered in four 8-ounce mugs of coffee with an ounce of half & half
each, my calories shot up to 1339.  And that's a conservative estimate on
how much coffee I drink.  And of how much half & half I probably dump in
there. If I actually kept track I wouldn't be surprised if I drank twice
that much in a day.

So, as of tomorrow, I will see what happens if I skip the half and half,
and just drink it black with sweet 'n' low.  I used to drink it that way
anyway.

If figuring out your menu is too difficult, you could always start fasting
for one day a week.

Nah, it's not too difficult.  I worry a bit about fasting though, do you
find it makes you even more hungry the next day?  That's what used to
happen to me as a child when I fasted for religious reasons.

I fasted yesterday and I am not hungrier today than on normal days,
after eating breakfast.

It could be an individual thing.

Your menu also sounds exactly like what I eat.  To the TEE because I do the
same thing with coffee and half 'n half. 'Cept I can't take black coffee, I
have to have the creamer.

Michelle,

This is very similar to what I eat quantity wise most every
day, with variations day to day in actual selections, more
chicken and fish and not too much red meat.  About 1400
calories/day fo rme, which has proven to be plenty to keep
me full.  I generally don't eat eggs for breakfast as I just
don't like them, normally have a flax meal cereal with fruit
instead.

I cut out coffee and caffeine before I started this diet but
have since added back 1 espresso per day, prepared as a
latte made with Hood's Carb Countdown product, though I will
on occasion use half and half as a treat.

I really don't believe in NOT COUNTING. In general I think we all
undersestimate what we eat. I think everyone needs to occasionally go
back to calorie counting just to as a check and balance against your
thoughts. And count what you ate yesterday, not just measure out for
today. I often use measures when cooking for the most part and then
type up everything afterwards. This shows me what I'm eating, not
eating what I planned. There is a difference. Once I start measuring
less I'm going to have to be more conscious of eyeballing things than
ever.

Michelle,
You might want to try DaVinci in your coffee.  It is REALLY good.
Heck, my wife and I keep a cabinet full of DaVinci flavors and use them in a
lot of things.
There are some flavors that are no good in coffee at all, but common sense
will tell you which ones those are (fruit flavors, cola flavor, etc).

I ran your numbers, got about 100 kcals more...ou might want to up your

protein...

Is htis exacly what you've been eating?  I suggest you track for two weeks

Oh, not exact, not every day.  4 cups of salad greens was an estimate. It
could be 5 or 6.  Sometimes I'll add some tomatoes, some green peppers, or
a few black olives, I just don't happen to have any right now.  Some days
instead of salad I have oriental stir-fry with shrimp or chicken, if I want
something hot, but I don't eat 4 cups of that, more like 2. Most days I
don't actually eat breakfast.  Sometimes for dinner I have chicken or pork
or fish. I only recently (in the past 2 weeks) cut out nuts and reduced my
cheese intake.

Because it's not that important to me.  I don't need the creamer, I can
enjoy coffee without it.  I'm thinkin' I'll add some cinnamon instead.

Oh, I'm not.  I only weigh once a month anyway.  I would like to lose
another 20 pounds in the next 5 and a half months, which is about a pound a
week.  It may be doable, it may not. *shrug*

My guess is that you forgot something else, or did not enter the right
weight of some food components that you eat. Try picking a chicken
breast, making a best guess as to how much it weighs, and then
actually weighing it on a scale. How about a handful of nuts, if you
eat those, etc.

I don't have a food scale.  :o(  I also think that my recent changes are
too recent to have made a difference yet, now that I think about it.  I
just cut out nuts and other snacks, and started limiting cheese about 2
weeks ago.

they are dirt cheap, at least the analog versions. Check out walmart
or your big local grocery store. $3 or so is likely all it will
take. That said, I do not use mine much.

You know, you did a wonderful job slimming down to where you are, try
to go real slow from now on... No sense in sabotaging what you did and
starving yourself too much etc. Not that I am saying you are doing so,
necessarily.

You are doing great Luna, you are a inspiration to me and others. I
loved the new pic you shared too, it was so cute.

I used to drink the coffee, but the sugar I put in it..Splenda, it
caused sugar cravings. Then couldn't get used to the taste of it. So
now, I just have water. Have you tried to give up on the coffee
completely? I know its hard. I was a diehard Mountain Dew drinker,
suffered bad headaches in induction and the withdrawls. I feel proud I
did it. Had tried so many times to stop it, and failed. The money I
save on not drinking it is great too. I swear, I used to drink at
least 4 of them a day. Then I used to drink 3-4 cups of coffee too.

I use sweet 'n' low in my coffee, and I swear, sometimes it's the only
thing that keeps me away from chocolate.  But anyway, no I have not
considered giving up coffee, and I probably never will. It doesn't cost all
that much, a big canister from Sam's is like, what, 3 or 4 bucks? I don't
buy the accusations that coffee is somehow bad for you, and I have seen
studies actually showing some health benefits.  Plus, I really like it.  If
it turns out that quitting coffee is the absolute only way I will be able
to lose the last of my excess weight, then I'll . . . um, complain to
someone in authority until they make it not true, I think.

Hey, you gorgeous thing!

Have you tried the really, really dark chocolate?  I get the Lindt 85%
chocolate bars.  Each block is about 1-1/2 inch square, and is just the
right amount to satisfy that chocolate urge.  Four squares (one serving,
according to the package) has 8 grams of carbs and 3 grams of fiber.  That
makes each square slightly over 1 gram of carbs.

If you're an extreme chocolate freak, and would eat the whole bar (10
squares), maybe this wouldn't be a good idea.  I munch on a square whenever
I get hungry for brownies or anything like that.  One square is very
satisfying.

Take care,
Carol

I may very well do that. Assuming the other guy I work with actually shows
up today, I get to leave for a while and do some grocery shopping.  With
really rich, dark chocolate, I am satisfied with a small piece.

I always measure how much H&H I put into coffee.  I usually use 1 Tbl, although
lately I've upped it to 1.5 Tbl.  1 tbl has 17.5 cals.
