A mid-week diet report

Doug Lerner - 19 Mar 2004 01:28 GMT From my diet blog - http://diet.lifemind.com/.1c815eed
Regular dieters are familiar with how we are so psychologically bound to the display of our digital scales.
My goal in LC2 dieting is to lose about 1 kg (2.2 lb) per week. So naturally my scale, which displays in 0.5 kg units doesn't change every day.
Tuesdays are my "weighing day". Last Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the scale stayed the same. I stuck with my diet, of course, but in the back of my mind I felt a bit glum.
This morning the scale ticked down another notch and all of a sudden the sun came out, birds started singing, I started noticing early cherry blossom buds and my morning walk with Tao seemed to go at a brisker pace.
It's amazing how such a little thing makes such a big emotional difference - even though rationally we all know better!

[quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > >Well, that was rude. Pissy Cheerios this morning, Roger? Roger has a good point. It's a lot more productive to get some exercise, even if it's just the stuff you learned in high school gym class, than sit at the computer all day. That's why you see me posting in clumps, instead of constantly. I'm not on here all day this time around. I'm either at the gym doing circuit training, stretching in my living room, trying to remember to tighten my abdominal muscles whenever I can, or doing housework.
I've never felt better!

So how do you read newsgroups? My news server is slower than molasses, so at the beginning of the day, I download messages. Then as I go by during the day and evening, I read some and reply if I feel like it. When I run out, I d/l more. Some days I get messages only a few times and spread out the reading over the day. Some days, I check for new messages quite a bit. It depends on how my life is going that day.

Basically the same, except my news server is very fast. I guess I usually come back to the group when I feel I need support or have something I want to contribute. But sometimes I have long lapses where I don't come back at all, usually because I'm just too busy doing other stuff.

It depends on how my life is going that day. I use Outlook Express....the program is open as I'm at the PC...I can check in as I like, between this and that...my connections are very fast, so I don't download messages...I just point and click...most days I don''t get past the ones that are visable in the window, so I miss out on some long threads...

I'm filing electronically with TurboTax...and direct deposit...love that!
Oh, do you dial in over a modem to file?

Nope. Call a toll-free number, punch in a bunch of info, including my credit union routing number, because I always get a refund. It takes about 15 minutes. I do this for both State and Federal returns and get my refunds within two weeks. And you don't have to mail anything. It works well for me because I have no mortgage, no children, nothing to take except the standard deduction. Ah, the simple life is truly good : )

I'd have the phone ripped out if DH didn't require it for work. I'd get pre-pay phones for the family emergencies and pretend otherwise we don't have one.

>> The Queen of Cans and Jars burbled across the ether: >> [quoted text clipped - 7 lines] > Well, it's a privacy thing with me. I don't do anything > like that over the internet. Call me paranoid... I don't like having my home invaded and the invader getting snippy with me as if it's his/her *right* to use my personal service which I pay for whenever they feel like it --- and no, I'm not talking about telemarketers exactly, although they are included in that.
Our family has always been a night family. We don't march to the tune of nine to five, never have and never will. Mid-America still gets its knickers in a knot over that. We've even been outed to new community members as witches because our lights are on all night and nobody sees movement around our house during the day. If there's yard work or outside stuff to be done I try to get it done in the evening before the sun sets, and sometimes drag out halogen lights after dark to work on the car or finish burning the sticks that accumulate like dandruff flakes in my yard -- black walnut trees shed something awful.
Our information is no more protected off line than it is online, and often is more safe online. Too many people have access to credit card/ss#/phone#/addresses etc offline. It's not like businesses keep that stuff under lock and key at all times or even bars employees who have no reason to be rifling thru your info with any real obstacles. Your cc can be 'stolen' right in front of you at the cash register/card machine by a determined theif with a good memory. Sometimes paranoia is taken too far and in the wrong direction, in my arrogant opinion. :)

My SO is a night creature, rarely in bed before 2 a.m. Lights on all night is a regular feature for us, too. I also had a black walnut tree, until we found out that it was interfering with our tomatos.

> also had a black walnut tree, until we found out that it was > interfering with our tomatos. It must have been right next to the plants. Because I nearly drowned in tomatoes last year from one really good tomato bush, and I've got 5 (out of 8 altogether) of the blasted trees on my little half lot. My yard is extremely well shaded except for the tomato plot.

I can't imagine not e-filing. It's the cat's pajamas, IMHO. There are lots of different places to do it, but I like taxbrain.com because it has an instant customer support chat.
