Products do have this but it is VERY hit and miss. Basically it waits
for X milliseconds of "relative" silence. 1000 ms = 1 second. That
means that any song that drops very quiet (classical pieces are a
pain) or has a stop in the song--breaks the song into two tracks. This
is always a pain on all analog cources(vinyl or cassette). Only
digital (CDs) define the begining and end of tracks with clear
markers.
What I do is I RIP them to WAV format. I will RIP the entire side of
an LP (or cassette in your case) to WAV format--uncompressed, about
10Mb per minute of sound. I then use a product called GOLDWAVE (
http://www.goldwave.com/release.html ) to select each track and
COPY/SAVE TO a separate WAV file. I also use GOLDWAVE to trim off the
extra silence, put a nice FADE OUT at the end of song, I clear up
major pops. I then use MP3 software to convert to MP3 in a second
step. I still use Audiograbber ( http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/ )
with the separately downloaded LAME 3.93 MP3 encoder. I use
Audiograbber to rip from analog source as well. It is an old program
but still satisfies my needs.
I've worked with Roxio/EZ CD Creator's line recorder and Musicmatch as
well as Audiograbbers and they all work about the same for
auto-splitting tracks. Fine for some but you will get errors on almost
every album/cassette unless the music is devoid of quiet moments or
breaks.
>What I'd really like is to find the original already digital, my
>cassette is not the best copy. I'm trying to find "Dancing for Mental

I would try the sound.mp3 newsgrops. Post in .requests and see if
someone has them. You could also check Kazaa Lite(not Kazaa) or one of
the other peering programs. I've grabbed some vinyl converts from
others to save time myself.

For free. If these don't work for you, ask away at the ng:

Some of the posters there use diferent utilities to those I have given
you, but these work ok for me and I've converted over 300 vinyl LP's.
Good luck

Forgot to say that these move all over in one track and are used to
split after moving.
