Today's eating

Okeydoke.  I started tracking everything I eat on Fitday today, and I mean
_everything_.  Well, almost.  I didn't enter my water because I have no
idea how much I drink, I just know it's a lot.  But I even entered how much
salt, pepper, and basil I used, in my best estimation.

I skipped breakfast (or had a late breakfast and a light lunch) My first
meal was a salad with chopped up chicken breast.  For some reason, FitDay
doesn't seem to have grilled chicken, so I put in "chicken, breast, with or
without bone, roasted, skin not eaten" 1 cup, chopped.  I don't have a food
scale yet so, well, I chopped it and put the pieces in a measuring cup, and
without smooshing it down it filled the cup.  I did the same thing for
measuring the salad greens, and for my hamburger and brocolli for my
dinner, which I did eat all chopped up together with butter.  Yum.  My
snack was two hard boiled eggs.

Anyway, the totals were calories: 1179, fat: 76g, carbs: 29g (13g of which
was fiber) protein: 97g.  Just looking at that on paper, it looks pretty
good to me, like I'm eating little enough to start losing again (I'm 156
pounds) but my stomach doesn't feel like it was low. I'm not interested in
upping calories if I'm not hungry, and as for the carbs, well, they
probably won't usually be that low, I just haven't done much shopping
lately, so I'm out of bellpeppers and tomatoes.  I would have added onion
to the dinner dish too, if I'd had the time to chop it, but I was rushed.
I'm happy with how I did today.

I have only 3 flaws.  My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

Protein is a little high, fat is a little low.

Most of us probably aren't in danger of eating too little. :)

I'm sure that will vary a bit day to day.  I'll post about it again next
week when I have a weekly average.

About half of your protein can be metabolized as glucose, but if your total
caloric intake is low enough it won't matter.

Mine varies tremendously. A few weeks of calorie counts shows I will
vary from a low of 774 to 2752, but they average to 1914. (i'm still
315).  I think that it should vary-naturally.

I try to let my hunger dictate how much and when I eat. So far it has
been reasonable. Even after "hungry" days when I eat more I notice my
appetite bounces down within a day or two. And after light days I will
wake up hungry and eat a real breakfast-not common for me. I try not
to freak myself out over the variances or weight bounces. But I do
stay under my carb limits.

Eating beef(vs chicken) increases fat %, as does when I eat more eggs
or cook with lots of butter. Although when I ate skirt steak(my
favorite cut) I actually had lower fat counts(50-55% a day). Those
things occur in waves. I get bored with eggs and just naturally back
off of them. I stock up on beef and eat that for a while, chicken &
Fish the same--although I tend to buy a small amount of fish and eat
it immediately.

I tracked ratio of fat in my diet versus weight lost and I coudln't
find a real correlation. My fat consumption has definitely decreased
from first weeks, but it hasn't hurt my weight loss. But this may have
to do more with the amount of weight I need to lose still. Later on
the amount of fat in the diet may play a more noticeable role.

Buy a scale.  You can get a good price on eBay.  Be sure to read the
seller's "feedback" before bidding.  Search under both Kitchen Scales and
Postal Scales.  http://www.eBay.com

I'll bet you have improved carb and calorie reduction just by being aware of
the FitDay numbers.  Good luck.
