The founder of the Powerbar has died of a heart attack at the age of 51.

I wonder if there will be as much nonsense media sensation about "he died
because of those awful powerbars" as there was about Atkins supposedly dying
because of his diet?

well, since powerbars were never touted as lowering cholesterol or
aiding in the prevention or reversal of heart disease, and since they've
always been targeted at athletes as a specialty product rather than as a
diet for the masses, i'm going to guess that the answer is no.

I know.  I'm just in an ornery mood today.  :)  The implications that
could be drawn from some statements in this thread could have been
tacked onto the bars instead of what the posters really meant.

People who are rather more than six feet tall and nearly as broad
across the shoulders often have uneventful journeys. People jump out at
them from behind rocks then say things like, "Oh. Sorry. I thought you
were someone else." {Guards! Guards!, 1989}

Probably not. His powerbars haven't threatened to put fast foods,
pasta places,  wheat and corn products out of business.

A lady came up to me on the street, pointed at my suede jacket and
said, "Don't you know a cow was murdered for that jacket?" I said, "I
didn't know there were any witnesses. Now I'll have to kill you too".

Not the same question, Revek. It was Atkins death vs. powerbar guy's
death. Atkins was a whole way of eating; powerbar is, well, a
powerbar.

I have worked with/worked out with several people that saw Powerbars as a
way of eating, literally.
Some eat them as a replacement for 1 - 2 meals per day, and can't seem to
make it through the day without them.

Jean, have you tried fresh waterchestnuts or are you using canned? If you
can get fresh, you're in for a real treat. That is if you don't know this
already.
Here, you can buy them at most supermarkets.

Canned. DH would have a stroke if I sent him into the fresh vegetable
section looking for another new something this week. I'll get around
to it soon, though. I am looking forward to seeing how they taste.
