It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was Us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things. {Jingo, 1997}

Some of the side effects I could do without: carpal tunnell, body acne, too much weight gain, heartburn....
I look forward to really learning how to do this "mother" thing. It seems I have finally found a job that will be challenging and ever changing. Can't quit this one! Can't get fired. Whether we are together or not, I am always going to be a "mother". How cool is that???

Jenny - 22 Mar 2004 16:55 GMT Carol Ann,
Due dates are a fantasy perpetrated by obstetricians. Many babies don't believe in them. <g>
Mine sure didn't. Baby 1 was 4 weeks overdue. Baby 2 was 2 1/2 weeks overdue and only appeared then because my doctor, knowing I was diabetic, induced him.

But, honestly, I STILL hope she comes BEFORE then.

There are three kids in my family and we were three, four and six weeks overdue! (I was the closest to on time, at 3 weeks o/d)

Just seems kind of harsh since they can't just cancel the labor and delivery part of their pregnancy. I did my one labor and delivery without any meds too, and I'm glad I did. The Wigglekid came out in full Wiggle Mode and got great Apgar scores too. :-) One child was enough for us though.
Take care, Carmen

I think pain is very relative, people have vastly different pain thresholds and some of us deal with certain types of pain better than other types. e.g. I'm used to living with back pain, but watch me whine and complain if I get a teeny, tiny burn on my hand!!

Crafting Mom - 24 Mar 2004 04:01 GMT >Well, I didn't think the pain was all that bad and I had four without >anesthesia. I had 4 as well. The first 3 were all without anesthesia, but with the 4th, I had an epidural toward the end. The reason for this was my inability to relax and breathe properly (I was an unco-operative b***h and you'd think it was my first the way I just couldn't take it) through the pain was slowing the birth down and causing problems, also the doctors and nurses were putting the pressure on, and what woman in the throes of very hard labour is gonna say no? Once the epidural took, a half hour later I was ready to push her out.
And yes, it hurts like a SOB, but once you look into the face of your newborn, it's all a blur. The only relief I had was that all my labours were very short. Longest labour was 9 hours.

Longest labour was 9 hours. If ever there were a situation where the phrase "It feels so good when it stops" is more appropriate, that's the ONE! You will never feel such a sense of RELIEF again in you LIFE unless you do it AGAIN.

We will wish for the best smoothest outcomes for all of our prego Moms-to-be! Even though I remember the pain, my teens are more of a pain in many ways. I love them dearly.
