Exercise that "doesn't count"

Since I've started working out, I've had a perceptual shift when it comes
to exercise.  Before I started working out, if anyone asked me "Do you
exercise?" I would have said "Sure!  I mow the lawn once a week, I walk to
the store, I go bowling, I run around and play chase with my nephews."
Anything that burned more calories than sitting and watching tv was
"exercise" as far as I was concerned.

Now, I think that stuff doesn't count.  Exercise is what I do to keep
myself in good enough shape to do those other things.  Those things are
chores and fun, not exercise.  It's just a little psychological change I
noticed today.

I have only 3 flaws.  My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

If you mowed our lawn, that would be about eight miles of walking (er,
pushing - no autodrive on the mower).  Assuming you didn't wimp out
and use the riding mower.

Oh, and we live on a hill, so a good chunk of that pushing is uphill.

> I walk to the store,

That's another four miles around here ;-)
(unless you want folk art, which is next door - only a mile round trip)

Exercise is fun....for me, anyway.

Just visited your website and noticed you had a list of reasons for
not smoking.

Before I quit smoking I made a list of reasons -- and kept it on a file
card.  Before I knew it I had filled both sides.  I then moved to a sheet
of foolscap, and again filled it -- even with very small printing.  Try it --
and be honest -- for example, I found myself out of smokes in the middle of
the night, and dug around in the ashtray and smoked what was left of the
butts!  Don't forget about burning holes in clothes, and leaving burn
scars on furniture.  These are but a few of the many things.  The list
became a great motivational device for me.

Keep it up!! Good Luck!

I think this way too.

When we first made our lifestyle change when we moved to the country,
I thought I was doing lots more exercise... I was grinding grain and
kneading bread by hand, gardening, blah, blah, blah.  And I did lose a
bunch of weight as it was more exercise than sitting in front of a
computer all day every day.

But it's not exercise anymore.  That stuff is life... chores or
recreation or such.

Exercise is what I do at the Y, and is prepartory to the life stuff.

exercise is anything you do above and beyond what your body has become
accustome to ....

if you work out 3 times a week and have stalled over a great period of
time ... thats normal activity ... you gotta up the zone or up the time

I don't know about that......exercise can be used to maintain fitness and
health, as well as improve it.

If you're exercising for weight loss...
