I have been amazed by the actual number of carbs and calories that are
in a day's eating after I started using fitday.com.  I was a champion
at unsuccessful low-fat "dieting", and thought I could keep a mental
tab of calories without a problem.  Having adopted LC as a WOE, I
thought the same metal tabulations would be a piece of cake (sorry)for
calories & carbs.

Fitday has completely changed my view of food, portions, and the real
costs of BLT's (Bites, Licks, and Tastes).  I'm thinking that I have
probably underestimated my calorie and carb consumption by 5-20%
(depending on the food) before using Fitday.

Has anyone seen the same results?  If so, do you have an estimate of
what you may have been over/under estimating before Fitday?  Just
curious if others have had the same experience.

I think it's difficult to nail down exactly what you had because of the
limited food database, but I definitely did find that things were adding up
more quickly than I thought in the early stages of LC. Of course you're not
supposed to care at that point anyway.

I know that I'm still surprised by a food now and then if I haven't
entered it before, and it has happened both with calories and with
carbs. I can't think of any examples, but it has happened. It's
especially important with carbs, at least for me. No more tasting
this, trying that, grabbing this and pretending it doesn't count.

I'm sometimes surprised by how few calories I have in a day. Not so
often carbs.

I didn't estimate by how much I was out, but I was definitely well out
with my estimates.  And not in my favour, I was eating way more than I
reckoned.  Worse, I discovered the same was true when recently I got a
bit out of the habit of recording it all, so it's not necessarily true
that once you've learned to measure by eye you're OK.

I've just started putting fitday to use, and find that entering my custom
foods is a good thing- I just take the package and enter the information
into fitday- then I know the totals are what I had wanted- Like the carb
countdown milk, and flax seed meal/ w davici vanilla syrup ( tonight's
dessert)

I like green peppers and onion along with steak or hamburger, fried in
a skillet with olive oil. I did underestimate how many carbs are in
it. Though its not going to change anything I do.  I pretty much am
sticking to the carb count I want to stick to. It is fun and
interesting to do a day menu plan, then can add or delete things to
get what you really want for the day, while sticking to the carb limit
a day.

Sometimes though, I find it takes so much time entering, then
rearranging things to fit the daily food intake.  I also am trying to
stick with 1200-1300 calaries a day.

The calories how they add up surprised me.

Though in the Atkins book, it really did say to not worry about the
calorie intake. Not stalling, still losing, so if the calories do go
above the calorie limit I set out to do, it really don't matter to me.
Since I am still losing fine.  So still in ways not paying too much
attention to the calorie. Its the carb amount I mainly look at. I am
still fairly new to fitday. I like it OK

If I do go into a stall, then yes will pay attention to it more.

I thought the exercise part, activities for the day was interesting. I
do alot of walking up and down stairs, carrying laundry and the vacumn
cleaner. Then I do walk my dog twice a day. Housework also. So it is
interesting for sure with that too.

I think what I like best about using FitDay is that it helps me make
better choices later in the day. I can look at what I have already had
and decide what fits with my goals. If my calories are high, I'll eat
a low cal snack or dinner. If I need more fat, I'll have a salad with
olive oil. If I'm ok with my fat and calories, I may choose something
wilder and crazier. :)
