Howdy all
I've just been told that I am hypothyroid and took my first pill today. In a
way, it's good to know WHY I have not lost (and indeed gained) weight over the
last months, in spite of being very careful about the calories and carbs. And
it's great to know that the fatigue and depression are due to something real
(not just in my mind). But I'm a little bummed and scared and I'm looking for
some input from others who have the same problem.
TIA

I take Synthroid (several years now). No problems gaining weight and a bit
slower losing but it can be done, just don't give up on your goals. While I
take several other meds that make losing weight harder, nothing has
prevented me from losing 57 pounds and maintaining my goal for 5 months,
just have to watch it. Moving more and eating less helps too. A low carb
diet is a necessity for me as I am diabetic also.

Its very common in older women. My mother has to take her daily pill as
well. Make sure you get regular tests to measure thryoid hormones.

There are not enough words to explain my journey with
hypothyroidism..............check out alt.support.thyroid if you find the
meds don't help you (give it about 3 months on meds)

Diagnosed 12 years ago, did no carbs two years ago, was wonderful. lost all
I wanted to over a nine month period, kept on going at reduced carbs, have
kept it off.
When I thought I would reward myself with a pizza, thought my insides were
going crazy. found out I am, unfortunately, gluten intolerant, although
the diet now prevents the diagnostic tests from working correctly. see
alt.support.celiac Any autoimmune disorder seems to suggest one may alspo
be gluten intolerant, if not fully *celiac*. And Celiacs who eat wheat,
barley or rye are at very increased risk of cancers.
The pills take months to really do their stuff, so be patient until you get
*back to normal* - weight loss may not kick in until then, but don't give
up.

Tia,
I've been taking thyroid meds for years. Has not affected my weight loss.
Maybe the weight comes off alittle slower but it DOES come off. I recently
had my thyroid checked (since being on low carb) and it has increased so my
meds were lowered. Don't know if this had anything to do with low carb or
not but the main thing is you will still be able to lose weight with a
thyroid problem.
