I drink a lot of diet soda (especially diet coke).  Will this hinder
an atkins diet?  Is diet coke worse than any other diet soda's?  what
is everyone's experience?

Soda is junk and doesn't belong in a "healthy" diet

she didn't ask about a "healthy" diet.  she asked about Atkins.

to the OP,  it seems to vary from person to person.  some folks think
aspartame gives them carb cravings.  i personally don't have any problems
with it.

you might try Diet Rite instead, it's sweetened with Splenda, which is
usually considered a better sweetener.  it's also caffeine free.

I learned how to use the apostrophe in early elementary school.

You are full of crap.  There is nothing wrong with diet soda.

That's your own opinion, I suppose, but I won't tell you you are full of
crap for expressing your opinion, because I believe opinions are a
personal and subjective thing.

Nothing right with it either. Why not just drink water or tea? You'll
skip all the fake food colorings and the phosphates that can lead to
loss of bone density. Dieting is about changing habits--not finding
frankenfoods that taste like something you shouldn't be eating.

Suddenly diet soda is a "frankenfood?"

Y'know, I'm already tired of hearing that particular new phrase.

It shouldn't hinder your diet. It might, but I doubt it. How's that
for an answer? Don't sweat the small stuff.

When i started atkins i knew that soda pop was one of the major issues i
faced (i drank up to 3 a day) then and there i told myself to cut it out and
I haven't had one in almost 2 years.  as for does it work with atkins, i
believe yes depending on the sweetner, but you'll want to cut it out in the
induction phase altogether

yourself.

Everybody says that diet soft drinks cause stalls, but I have no problem
with them.

If I didn't use Caffeine Free Diet Coke, I would have real trouble getting
the large volume of fluids per day that dieters supposedly need.

YMMV

It may or may not; it's how you tolerate it.

The caffine (if you drink that kind) isn't all that good for you, and
it makes some people more hungry.

The sweetener (aspartame) gives some people carb cravings.  My doctor
recommended that I not drink Diet Coke for that reason.  However, I
have been finding that it helps me STOP a craving when I'm
sweet-seeking.

I would recommend that you cut back; make Diet Coke something you
drink 1 or 2 of a day rather than your typical source of liquids.
Water is the best thing for you to drink.

Not only does it make it more special when you drink it... assuming
you DO drink the caffinated version, it makes caffiene work for you as
an alertness drug again!  I know that when I (on rare occasions) drink
a caffinated Diet Coke, I really feel it.  Which is important when you
have to stay awake driving or otherwise perform when you might be a
little tired or sleep-deprived.

However, I had cut out the caffiene many years ago, but started
low-carbing just this year.

Does a brand exist which uses Splenda?

Yes.  At least "Waist Watcher" uses Splenda.  There may be others.  Waist
Watchers is good, but very sweet.

Waist Watchers unfortunately isn't available in California, where Archon
is.

Diet Hansen's is made with splenda.  (I'm not sure about its availability
in CA, though.)

Is there a "Kash 'N' Karry" anywhere near you?  According to the Waste
Watchers web site, that's the only place in Florida that carries it.

Kash n Karry isnt on the south east side of Florida.. They are all over the
place on the west coast of Florida.. Over here we have Publix, Winn Dixie,
Albertsons, and Super Walmarts.. Had a few Food Lions for awhile but they got
driven out a few years ago.
Oh well, maybe one of the others will start carrying it.. Thanks..

Do they get rid of that strange taste that other diet sodas have?
BrianH - 27 Mar 2004 13:57 GMT
I've been drinking Diet Sodas for years. Prefer the taste, I know weird.
Diet -Rite tasted very 'Diety' to me, too sweet I think.
