OK...

I've completed my first week of induction and I have survived. I have
also survived my girlfirend going thru her 1st week. I believe that
was the much greater struggle. She is a reforming sugar freak and
chocoholic. So on top of the headaches and sluggishness, she was
CRABBY! Luckily, love and a lot of patience (mostly mine) has seen us
thru. And she was a lot happier when she discovered net carbs!

We now have decided that we want to track our progress more closely.
We are using fitday.com to track our eating (it's free!) but we need
to track our weight.

Is there a particular bathroom scale that anyone out there would
recommend? We are looking at ones that also do the body fat analysis.
The weight watchers scale at target looks like a good one but we'd
love to hear some reviews from all of you.

Thanks for a being a great group and posting lots of info!

I would recommend a Tanita (a scale that does bodyfat)...if you aren't
obsessive.  This scale will vary by about 1% bodyfat per day, so it can
indicate several pounds gained/lost.  However, for long-term analysis,
such as a month or many months, it works well.  I started at well over 40
% bf, and I'm in the 33-34% range now (but this is a morning reading,
which is less accurate than an evening reading, but I'm more interested in
trends anyway).

Bob,

I've seen mixed reviews about the Tanita Scale's accuracy. I see now
there are some with athlete mode. I'm not the athlete I once was and
it will take me a while but I plan to start getting close again! If
you say the Tanita is good, perhaps I should do a little more
research.

I'm feeling pretty good today and I'm not hungry at all. Does appetite
normally drop off during induction?

Thanks!

The Tanita weight scale I believe is very actuate.  The BF% can be
off, mostly due to how dehydrated are when you test.  So if you use
the weight scale in the AM and the BF% at night (after you've had
plenty of fluids during the day) you'll is a measure on your BF% --
that even if its slightly incorrect you will be able to see a trend in
where you're BF% is headed.

All that said, to get a good gage on your BF% I would suggest you get
a caliper BF% test.  Tape measurement methods to find BF% are much
more likely to be incorrect than the Tanita in my experience. If you
paid anything for the services at http://www.mybodycomp.com/ it wasn't
money well spend.  We just had a discussion regarding this topic
earlier this week -- you might want to do a Google search.

The http://www.mybodycomp.com/ site is free and if nothing else, it is
a place to keep track of yor measurements. We got a Tanita scale on
Friday nite. We been on it 3 times a day at least. Just a new toy.
Only going to track the weight and body fat once a week on Saturday
Morning.

Well I have some Spare ribs on the smoker right now and I need to
check my fire. Talk to you soon!

Congrats on getting through the first week - from here on it gets easier.

I'm on a limited budget, so I went for a plain old scale and went to

http://www.mybodycomp.com/

to check my body fat percentage.  You have to register, but it's free and
as far as I can tell, registering doesn't generate a lot of spam.

I hope you mean by subtracting fiber, not sugar alcohols.
