I haven't seen her posting recently.  Does anyone know if she's a mommy?

Heh.  Reminds me of when Jason was born.  For a few weeks beforehand
there was a sign in my cube that said "If I'm not here today, assume
I'm starting my 2 week vacation now."

When I called in the good news someone replaced it with a more
suitable sign :-)

I thought of her myself this morning, because I reached my March Challenge
goal, and realized she hadn't posted her usual Friday call for updates.  She
may indeed have bigger - smaller - things on her mind right now!

Yes!  I spoke to her today --- the baby is here and healthy.  Carol Ann
sounded a little tried, but she's fine and was leaving the hospital today.
The baby came on the 24th I believe, and weighed in at 7 lbs and some oz.
I'm sure she'll be on soon to give full details.

I hope so - 7 lbs and "some oz" indeed!  The rules are that you ought
to be able to recite the exact weight and length.  Bonus points for
knowing the Apgar scores.  ;-)

Take care,
Carmen

Well, I was driving down I85 and on my cell...and CA was a little tired, so
I didn't want to ask her to repeat herself.  I think I heard it, but I'm not
sure, so I left that part unclear.  Also, what are Apgar scores?  Remember,
you're speaking to a baby bonehead here :)

Something to do with how quickly baby's lungs oxynegate (sp?) baby to
the proper blood level.  One sign (if I remember correctly) is color at
so many seconds. They've correlated Apgar scores to *something* but I
forget what, that helps indicate baby's future develpment, or something
like that.

Real helpful there, I know. :)

Well, thanks, anyway. It's all kinda scary to me.  I'm just glad the baby is
okay and that Carol Ann is too.

Aargh!  Please tell me you have a headset, or a handsfree setup....

Apgar scores are a rating system that hospitals use to express a
baby's overall health at birth.  My daughter Caitlin got a 9 and 10
(one and five minute scores).
Here's a good explanation of the system:

I hope it comes in handy for you at some point down the road.  :-)

Interesting reading.  No wonder parents get all hyper over pushing their
childern for better scores.  I had no idea it started 1 to 5 minutes after
the baby comes.  Figures, tho...

Thanks.  I'm working on it!

Whew!  There are so many people on the road who just don't think...I'm
glad you use your brains outside the classroom.  ;-)
I saw a woman eating ice cream the other day while she drove.  That
wouldn't have been a problem - if she hadn't been eating it out of a
cup with a spoon in one hand and the cup in the other!

<laughing>  Never thought about it like that.

She's out there somewhere Roger.  You've got a lot going for you.  :-)

A girl!  Of course, we knew it would be a girl, so I didn't think to mention
it :)

That's wonderful!  I'll bet she's glad that part is over with.
