For those who may have been following my recent posts, and others as well, I
will very briefly summarize what is going on:

* I started on Atkins over a year ago. Lost a lot of weight - about 40 lb -
over the first six months. Then I leveled off for about 6 months and my
weight started creeping up again.

* Almost a month ago I started restricted calorie intake and letting carbs
creep up more. I lost 3.5 kg = 7.7 lb that way. But hunger started getting
worse after about 10 days.  Plus I seemed to be stuck at 114.5-115.0 kg
(252-253) lb for almost two weeks, which was completely incomprehensible to
me, since I was eating on the average of just 1600-something calories per
day. At my weight I should have been losing more rapidly. My past experience
with low-cal dieting had been different.

So yesterday, I decided to "go for it" and try to throw myself back into
ketosis (which I had fallen out of after my first 3-4 months) and see if
there really is or is not a "metabolic advantage".

Yes, I know it is way to soon to report on the results. It's just been one
day. But it was so interesting that I thought I would report anyway.

Yesterday, I highly restricted carbs to induction levels of below 20. I ate,
to my most accurate measure, just 18.9 carbs all day. (This wasn't literally
induction, since I drank green tea and also had some cottage cheese, which
is forbidden on induction even though it was only 3.8 carbs).

M caloric intake ended up being much higher than my average over the last
month - I had a total of 2462 calories of food.

My hunger was under control though. At least more than it had been.

And this morning when I weighed myself I had mini-whooshed down to 113.5 kg
= 249.7 lb, not only continuing weight loss in a dramatic way, but breaking
through the 250 lb barrier again.

So I am psyched enough to continue very-low-carbing for the time being (I
would have been anyway; one day is too small a time period to judge
anything).

I'll report again next week or at the next milestone - whichever comes
first. :)

Try reducing your carbs and your calories.

In other words: butch up.

Most of us probably aren't in danger of eating too little. :)

I don't understand you people who take 6 months to lose 40 pounds???  Are
you sure your doing induction???  That is crazy!

I would try to explain to you that the more weight you have to lose as a
percentage of your total bodyweight, the easier it is to lose at a higher
rate, at first, but I'm sure you wouldn't understand any of that.

Maybe this will work:

Because you're really fat, the first 40 pounds is really easy for you to
lose. All you have to do is close your mouth for a few minutes.

... and you demonstrate, yet again, that you know absolutely nothing about
weight loss.

Doug, it'll be interesting to see what the results are past the first
few days. SInce you haven't been doing very LC you may have some
glycogen stores to drop at first. I'm trying to find my CCLL and it a
slightly confusing point--which I can't sort out at the moment. I'm
burnt from working round the clock and thinking coherently is very low
priority for my body today. It will be interesting if I find a "magic
carb number", where my weight loss slows dramatically without my
calories increasing proportionately.

Well, no change since the 1 kg drop after the first day. But it's only been
4 days so far.

I have had an exceptionally good month though - dropping from 118 kg to
113.5, a loss of 4.5 kg, which is almost 10 lb!

This is with the first 24 days being on low-cal, somewhat-higher-carb and
then switching back to under 20 carbs/day.

More later...
