Hi,
I've been thinking about trying to add plain yogurt back into my WOE. I've
read that the lactose in yogurt converts to lactic acid. Would it adversely
affect weight loss or not? I'd love to try some cucumber salad with
homemade yogurt dressing for something different from the regular lettuce
salad.
Also, would welcome any recipes using plain yogurt.
Thanks,
Linda

Plain yoghurt is quite low-carb, and the zestier it is, the more of the
lactose has been eaten by the culture and converted to lactic acid.
(The "bite" = the acidity.)

I like raita -- yoghurt with diced cucumber, fresh mint, and cumin
powder.
Or cucumbers in yoghurt instead of sour cream (with a little red wine
vinegar and lots of freshly ground black pepper).
A dessert I eat a lot is yoghurt with berries and Splenda.
Then I gather you can marinate chicken in yoghurt before cooking it,
although I haven't tried that... yet.

How do you cook it after marinating it? Fry? Bake? ???

either way.

Dunno about weight loss, but I'm interested in the lactic acid question
also, for leveling BG. On Mendosa's site there is a page about acid
reducing the GI/GL of other foods, as in salad dressing. Also an article
about 'pickling' veg in yoghurt whey to reduce their GI/GL.
I love yoghurt and find it very helpful. Instead of milk, I make a drink
of yog + water + half and half or cream + maybe some sour cream. This
satisfies craving for milk but with lower GL I think. (Yog labels list
'sugars' but they seem to really turn into 'lactic acid' in the process
so are less impact.)
Yog is very good in cream soups etc.

Here's another cite for yoghurt lowering the GL/GI of other foods, this
time bread.

Linda,
I find plain yogurt works very well for me. It doesn't raise my blood sugar.
But read the labels. A couple times I've come home with things labeled
"Plain Yogurt" that turned out to be full of starch and filler. Not only are
they higher carb, they taste disgusting.
The plain ones that say "contains live yogurt cultures" seem to be best.
Also, a couple times I've picked up vanilla yogurts that were shelved with
the Plains and had labels almost identical to the plain ones. If you are in
a rush you can get home only to discover you've got the stuff with 35 grams
per serving by mistake.
