Ok, I need some new shoes and fast!
Here are my stats: 30yrs old, 258 lbs , on my feet on a hard concrete floor
for 8 hours, flat footed.
I , in the past, had New Balance and liked them for the most part, but now I
need new shoes. Can someone either point me to some good shoes, threads on
good shoes or such? I hear great things about Ryka but I dont know what
style to buy or even look for.I just need opinions on brands without a lot
of jargon that I dont understand. How loose is it ok for the heel to be in
your shoes? Should your heel move at all? What do you need if you are flat
footed?
I like New Balance and have had the 606s but dont know if the new 608s are
the right type for me.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have your ever tried Birkenstocks? They are great for times when you're on
your feet a lot.

SAS shoes. Recommended by my mother-in-law after she had surgery on her
legs/feet. I stand/walk a lot in my job, and they are the ONLY brand that
don't have me limping by the end of the day. They aren't particularly pretty,
and they are pretty expensive, but damn, they are comfortable. I can wear them
longer than my Eccos or my Birkenstocks.

Always buy high quality shoes. You'll save in the long run by not having to
see a podiatrist because of corns, bunions, and hammertoes.
I wear Birkenstocks myself, but my feet do hurt with the ankle boots after a
long day. We're about the same size (20 pounds difference).
If you like clogs, Mom swears by Dansko.

Just a thought...I love SAS shoes myself and would never buy any other kind
for everyday use. I have bought a lot of them on eBay for about $15 or less
compared to the over $80 they charge in the SAS stores, and all of them have
been new or very slightly worn. If you are not sure of your size try on a
pair in the store first, then ask for a listing of that size on eBay.

If you're flat footed, look for a sneaker with a medial post to
prevent/support overpronation. If you're standing all day and
overweight, you'll want sturdy support, not just walking support. Asics
and New Balance make great sneakers with medial posts.

Dansko clogs. Nurses, surgeons, and chefs swear by them because they're
supportive even after 10 hours of standing on a hard concrete floor.
I wear mine all the time, and I'm not any of those things. I'm just a shlub
who'll buy t-shirts at Costco but won't skimp on comfortable, good-for-me
$100 Danskos.
