I had a blood test just before I started the South Beach Diet. I was at a
cholesterol of 262 (supposed to be under 200), ldl of 185 (should be under
100), hdl of 36 (should be over 40) and triglicerides of 249-my blood sugar
was normal (after all the things I eat and drink during the day-pre diet, I
thought my blood would be made of sugar).
After 7 to 8 weeks of being on South Beach, I have lost 18lb's and my
cholesterol is now 167, ldl is 107, hdl is 44 and triglicerides are now 95.
My doctor figured that my readings would drop some but even he was suprised.

I think the key is eliminating the bad oils. Just Like Atkins says. It is
working for me. I recently added his essential oils supplement. Will go
back to Dr in Sept for a blood test see how that influences the mix. I
exercise (walk).
