I'm getting sick of scrambled eggs and sugarfree jello. Any other ideas off
the top of your head?  Post-surgical tells me to eat cool and soft for days.

Not a good idea.  People should eat several ***small*** meals spaced
out every day to keep the metabolism going. Plus, skipping meals might
increase your appetite causing some people to pig out later on.

Congratulations.  That's one of those most idiotic posts I've read in a
while. It'll surely be hard to top.

Really?   According to whom?  Maybe part of the obsolete low-fat mantra?

My metabolism perks along nicely on two meals a day (lunch and dinner) with
its steady supply of fuel from the stored fat that's converting to energy
through ketosis.

cool soup?

what is your daily carb limit?  if not on induction may be you can make some
smoothies with yoghurt and soft fruits, drink it with a straw.

Ada,

Depending on what kind of dental surgery she had, drinking through straws is
forbidden.  I couldn't drink through a straw for about 2 days (I think)
after I had wisdom teeth pulled.

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I was told that sucking on a straw can
create suction in the mouth and pull the clots out of the socket or
otherwise keep clots from forming.

Now if she'd like to use a spoon to eat her smoothie, that should be okay.

I was told not to suck on a straw after having wisdom teeth pulled also. I did
anyway. My stitches came loose, and I had to go back to the dentist and have
the insicisons restitched. Best thing to eat while in the recovery stage.. Is
liquids, or soft foods. Yogurt, soup/broth. Things you don't have to chew.

The blood clot thing.. True also. I get dry socket usually after having a tooth
pulled. Also takes me a longer than usual time to get to feeling better.

Having major dental work coming up, and its nice to read this stuff. Prepare
myself in advance.

I have to agree wth the straw issue. When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I
didn't heed the warnings to not use a straw. The result, FOUR dry sockets!
That is a pain I would not wish on anyone.

Ouch!! Chris!
I am having a row of fake teethers put in, from the left side of the front
tooth, all the way to the back. Sometimes I wonder if I should just get them
all yanked, and get dentures. Cheaper. My front teeth, plus another are already
fake. But they look like the real thing. Then I have a tooth on the bottom
right.. that is cracked, and will get another faker put in there. I cracked it,
eating almonds.

I look forward to the upcoming dental work..  only because I will be able to
chew meat easier, less pain. Oh, and my smile will look better. It don't look
too bad right now, but it will be a improvement.

My 17 year old has 2 wisdoms coming in. They came in right.. Yes!! I had 2
wisdoms come in at that age wrong, then the other two came in wrong.. Under the
back two teeth on the bottom.. At the age of 25. Weird huh? How they didn't all
come in at the same time.

Sunshyne,

From the word "stitches" onwards I read your post through the gaps between my
fingers!  What you describe certainly sounds painful!

About the teethers you mentioned - are you getting crowns?  Modern dentistry is
truely amazing.  I had no idea so many people are wearing crowns until I become
one of them, then I start noticing.  I am fitted with 1 crown and at one or two
visits the procedures took so long that I started snoozing on the dentist's chair.

Big hugs for the upcoming dental work.

Cheers,
Ada

There will be two crowns on top. The rest.. space between, fake teeth all the
way.
The bottom one, that is cracked, a crown hopefully. If its too far gone, then a
fake one.

Next to the front teeth.. a couple teeth to the left.. I have a  bad tooth.
Then two empty spaces. Had them teeth extracted already. Then one back tooth is
still in place..Its bad too. I am having a row made.. One tooth will fit over
top the existing tooth. Like a crown. Then the empty spaces filled with the
fake tooth, then connected to the back with a crown. Hope I explained it right.

I already have three teeth in the front like that. Connected in a similair way.
I lost them teeth in a car accident. :(

I also have had dental problems, like tooth decay and just weak and brittle
teeth for a long time. Since giving birth to my youngest son. (12 yrs. ago)
Maybe it was lack of calcium, when I was pregnant with him? I wonder sometimes.

LOL on you looking through fingers about stitches. I got a strong stomach I
guess. But think its funny and cute when others are squemish. Shoulda seen it
when I had 50 staples pulled out of my arm. ;O
One of my sons had a fish hook buried in his foot once. Docs had to cut it out.
Been through the broken arms, stitches alot with three boys. Duct tape does
come in handy at times.. LOL. Sometimes to tape the kids up, so they won't kill
each other.. LOL. In good humor of course.

Thanks for the well wishes, I am looking forward to the better smile, and
eating and chewing better.

My teeth have been snapping in half like crazy the past few years.  Most
have large fillings, and the teeth lose their structural integrity after
awhile.  'Specially since I'm getting older.

Good luck to us all!

Tells you what i know about dental. LOL. Its a bridge, duh! Its so expensive,
but having it done anyways.

Yeah it was a bad one.. the car accident.  Been years ago, I am over it now. It
haunted me for a long time. I can talk about it now. It is also a bridge in the
front. I think it was the start of my health problems.  My right arm, the bone
was crushed in the accident. To get the bone out, they had to make a long
incision, then the muslce etc.. The fascia. One shoulder is higher than the
other. I also had a concussion. My back and neck wasn't really checked out.
Took a year to get the use of the arm back. Since then, yeah its been downhill
on the health though. I have been in two more accidents, within the last 2
years. But hey, none of them accidents were my fault.

Maybe its age then? With the teeth cracking?

Thanks Petra. We no longer drink soda pop drinks. They may sneak one while in
school though, but at home.. None.

Leafy green veggies is definitely part of our daily diet now too.

It really does have alot to do with what we drink and eat don't it.

My sons have all had sealants done on the back teeth, up and down. That helps
prevent tooth decay also.

Thanks for then links!

I settled the 2 year ago accident. The new car accident, is still ongoing. Just
got a letter about updating the records, like what is goiong on right now. I
got up to 70 thousand total coverage for the accident. Most of its being used
right now for the doctors, scripts, PT, also surgery.

Before the accident, I was looking for work, sending out 15 resumes a week,
interviewing.. etc. I was doing very very well, I had been working on bettering
my health. The accident changed that.

I cannot work right now. Going to school anyways soon. Cannot do both at the
same time. I have a hard time standing for long periods of time right now. Then
the time I can sit at a computer is limitied to a 3-4 hours at a time, with
pain meds, before the pain sets in, to a intolerable point.

I got a settlement recently, on the divorce. I am thinking of buying a mobile
home to move into. Its on a great piece of property, lots of living space. I
think it would be cheaper to do this, instead of paying rent. Then have enough
left over to live on for 2 years. I hope my health gets better, I am going to
school, then hopefully be able to work after finishing school. Thats plan A.
Havn't figured out plan B yet.

Done rambling. Like I said before, its better than talking to myself. LOL.

As a follow up to the yogurt suggestion there is an Atkins brand Yogurt
Smoothie that is a delicious protein drink.

One of several flavors, for example, is Strawberry Banana. For that
particular flavor:
Calories 100
Net Carbs 4g
Protein 13 g

Good enough to be a whole breakfast or an emergency snack.

Thanks. Now age 56 and determined to get fit again before I get any older.
Hitting 60 will be hard enough without being overweight too.

Wish it were not so but the years have simply caught up with me. Was skinny
my whole life - except for brief stint of overweight in early 70's. Cut off
that 15 lbs. to my perfect weight using Atkins back then.

After hitting age 40 I stubbornly tried over and over the low fat thingie to
get rid of the ever creeping additional lbs. Three years ago I hit an all
time high and then lost 25 lbs a painful and slow low cal, low fat approach.
I was pleased then but it hasn't budged since. I'm now smartening up and
going back to Atkins.

After three days I am down 5.5 lbs. from a weight I have held for many
months. A full week into it and its holding at -5.5, which tells me its a
real 5.5 down. Not just a swing or water.

Why did it take me so long to remember that Atkins really works for me?? I
think its the general media and indoctrination from those who don't
understand how you need "fuel" to lose weight and get fit.

Yogurt. Tofu - even if you don't really like it, it's bland, easy to eat,
easy on the digestion, which can be important - there are few things more
disgusting than throwing up when you have bunch of stitches in your
mouth. Chicken - cut it into small pieces.

It depends on the yogurt.  I use 'Liberty Bio Organic' brand plain full fat
yogurt and it has 4.4g net carbs per half cup.  Add half a cup of sliced
strawberries, raspberries or peaches, a scoop or two of whey protein powder
and some zero-carb sweetener, liquify in a blender and you have a very
filling smoothie at around 8g net carbs or less.

For someone having their wisdom teeth out, I'd skip the strawberries and
raspberries (or anything that has little bits to get stuck in awkward
places), but I mix banana flavored protein powder into my yogurt and it
makes a great, rich tasting yogurt.

Also, for those new to this, remember that yogurt probably has fewer carbs
than the label suggests. The idea is that the yogurt cultures eat the
lactose during the yogurtification process, so there isn't as much sugar
left as went into it.

I had gum surgery a few months ago - and found that making soup was
great!  Cream of broccoli and cauliflower were easy and delicious.
I don't remember the exact recipe, though - something to do with
cream, the veggies, maybe some chicken stock, and a blender.  Oh -
and  added some cheese to make them more interesting.

I also discovered smoothies - LC yogurt and carb countdown milk and

Fauxtatoes are good cold, too.  Mix ricotta with fresh strawberries and Splenda
in a food processor or blender -- makes a WONDERFUL (and nutritious) strawberry
mush -- add some protein powder if it's too runny after blending.

I used to work in a nursing home and there were patients there that had
to have what is referred to as a mechanical soft diet all the time.
It was the standard food but shredded in the case of meats, and finely
chopped for fruits and vegtables. That way you can have pretty much
anything you already have. You can also puree it if that is more to your
liking.

Single malt scotch is awesome (NO it does NOT have carbs as DON'T vodka,
gin, rum, bourbon, etc generally)
Malt can be made low carb through the judicious use of yeast.
Low carb beer? Uh...yeah.
Read the books.
You can have more than eggs for breakfast.

What about putting some fresh strawberries in the blender - in fact - most
of your vegetables and meats can also go in the blender.  Not extremely
appealing to the eye - but the flavor stays the same.  I saw a lot of it in
high school - worked in a hospital kitchen.  Our hospital had 2 wings of
live in older people and a lot of them could only eat pureed food.  It can
be pureed while hot - you may need to add a little water for consistency -
especially to the meats.    If it's too hot to eat - let it cool to room
temp.  Hope this helps.
