a bit discouraged after 2 weeks

Medium Gnome - 30 Jul 2004 22:31 GMT WI today after two weeks back at WW. I have lost a total of ONE POUND. Because a loss is a loss, down is down and I had a nice NSV (looser waist band) I am not very down in the dumps about such slow weight loss this early in the game but...
Not sure but my point intake may have been 40 -50 points or more before WW. My points level is at 22 plus Flex points. Is it possible that my body has rebelled at the drop in points I'm giving it? Should I have included more exercise during those first two weeks? I certainly did use my Flex points and been through TOM and expected to lose a little more this week but it didn't happen. Last couple of days I did not journal but didn't think just THAT would make the difference.
I'm hoping I can journal each and every day and not slack off near the end of my week. I WILL find out the points of an item before eating it and journal it. (i.e. found out my "breakfast bread" is 4 pts. per slice - glad I had only a few slices of it this week).
Questions about my meager weightloss so early in the game:
Have I busted up my metabolism that badly? Did I eat too many Flex points? Would faithful journalling helped a lot or a little? At this weight (150lbs.) do I have to exercise 2pts. worth atleast 5 times per day for a 1lb./wk loss?
Any other suggestions?

frood - 30 Jul 2004 23:18 GMT I understand your frustration! I'm a slow loser, and even in my first few weeks, I lost very little. It is possible your body is rebelling against the point drop. Maybe it is saving up for a woosh next week. :-) You could try altering the protein/carbo ratio, to see if that does anything. Since you are a former WW, you know the importance of water, water, water.
Try posting some of your journals. Maybe somebody here can offer some input.

I didn't want to make the mistake of too little water but I think you make a good point about altering the protein/carbo ratio. It might take a little more effort being a vegetarian. Just got myself a "Better n' Burger" veggie burger and no points veggies for an afternoon snack.

Once you body realizes (2-3 weeks I would guess) that it will be fed, it will start letting go. I am also a big fan of exercise, and don't recall if that is part of your daily routine.

Between putting our house up for sale, two major moving sales, packing, moving, settling in, etc. Exercise kind of sneaked out of my life and it was taking a bit of work to get into the groove again. Did some laps in pool before lunch and 20 mins. on treadmill after lunch. It kept me away from the food and burned away a couple points. I hope this is the start of a good thing.

You will lose weight again, 'cos you did last time, and you know how to do it. Losing a pound in the first week is a blow 'cos some people lose huge amounts. I lost 6 or 7 in my first week, but it's all water, and just a little fat. Yours on the other hand was probably all fat. If you have started doing exercise again, then you probably have upset the water balance and in the next couple of weeks the retained water will slowly disappear. I know it's frustrating but you just have to be patient. I'm as impatient as anyone. I can't believe that it's taken 2 years to get here, but all that effort has paid off and it will for you too.

Medium Gnome - 31 Jul 2004 17:53 GMT It took me 2 weeks to lose that pound. :-( I expected my biggest loss to be the second week (after TOM). Trying harder this week.

[quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > > Ray Fred - 31 Jul 2004 03:24 GMT You don't mention how much you have to lose but if you are already close to your weight range, the losses could be slow and remain slow. Also, two weeks is not that much of a trend or sample so keep with the program.
And, yes, JOURNALING is quite important. If you are inadvertantly goofing a few points that could explain the limited loss, too.
As for exercise, it probably helps but there are folks who have lost without doing much.
You also noted that the measurements other than weight changed. Go with that for a while, too.
But, again, everyone's metabolism is slightly different and you ARE LOSING!!!

No, not really much to lose and I would rather small but steady loses then a yo-yo result.
Ate all 22 pts. today without dipping into Flex points yet.

It seemed harder to do the same this time. Today's a good day. The wake up weigh in this morning kicked off a better attitude. It's 6:30pm and I still have 8.5 points left. The past two weeks I would have consumed all my points by this time of day. Yeah for me!

Commit to not stop until you get to goal, even if your rear falls off.

I'd just keep up eating within your alotted points, exercise at least 3 days a week and you will see the results on the scale. The fact that you feel it in your pants is more important than the scale, the scale doesn't take into account the muscle you gain from exercise (which will cause you to show a gain or very little loss also)!!!

That was something I didn't expect and yeah for NSVs. How could we manage without them?

Deb in Northern California - 31 Jul 2004 08:11 GMT First of all you say you are eating at 22 points, plus your Flex points. That is the points for someone that weighs 150-174 lbs. Personally I would either not eat the Flex points or go to the next level which is 150 lbs or less = 20 points. I know that when you have that 2 point drop it is difficult, so I would drop to 21 points for a few weeks and then down to 20. I am basing these numbers on the numbers you have in your signature line.
I know that when I am near a change in points levels and eat my flex points, I tend to have a gain. So you may need to adjust your point accordingly.

My first week I lost very little and maybe four pounds after the first three weeks, and yes, I think our body's do rebel when we change. hang in there for at least two more weeks and journal before you change much, Lee
