Well, my scales refused to settle this morning. First I was up 0.8. Then
up 2. Then clothes on - up 4. T-shirt on - only up 1. I give up - who
knows what I weigh this week? Hubby is going to take a look at them later -
give 'em a clean, check the batteries, that kind of thing. In the
meantime....well, I'm feeling slimmer this week, and that'll have to
do........ I'll put the up 2 in my chart, and weight for next week :(

Good point. I live in an old house and when I first got my new scale, I
thought it was broken. It couldn't settle on a number no way, no how. I
finally found a mostly level spot in my bedroom and even then, I had to
make sure it didn't get out of position by more than an inch. Now that my
bathroom is remodeled, rebuilt from the studs out, my scale is maddeningly
consistent. (Is "maddeningly" a word? Suddenly I don't feel in command of
my vocabulary.)

I like "Maddeningly", can I borrow it ? *grin* I'm still learning english..
so I can get away with all sorts of things.. ;op

Well, if one can be 'far from a madding crowd"
Why not maddeningly far?
In addition::
maddening adjective (1822)
1 : tending to craze
2 a : tending to infuriate
b : tending to vex : irritating
maddeningly \-le\ adverb

Well, when you put it that way. Thanks for letting your fingers do my
walking. <G> And yes, when my scale consistently shows my weight as
up, it tends to craze, infuriate, vex, and irritate. In a word, it's
maddening.
Do you ever start to spell a word and all of a sudden it looks funny
and you can't remember how to spell it or whether it's even a word?
That's what happened to me.

I will not admit my pre-demenia state here. Not 'wile' I can avoid
it. I once knew that was not right but could not for the life of me
put an 'h' in that word. (g)

When spelling "friend," I have to recite the rule: 'i' before 'e'
expect after 'c.' I always want to spell it like it sounds. Another
word that trips me is "occasion." The mnemonic I use to help me with
that one is "there's no 'a.s' in "occasion." Why do those two words
still give me trouble but "mnemonic" doesn't? (never mind, it's a
rhetorical question.)

That's why god created spellcheckers. I too can't spell to save my life
sometimes. I just draw blanks on many words these days.

Well, I forfeit the right to recite the "i" before "e" rules. I do
use that word a number of times per month in my work.

It's supposed to cope with any surface.......carpet, hard floor,
whatever...... but I'm going to check how flat that bit is - that's a good
idea :)

Great attitude. My scale does seem to cooperate after being moved too. DH
tends to move mine when he grabs the laundry basket from the bathroom.

Hang the scale. Go with the slimmer feeling.
