Old WW recipe cards from the 70's. The author of the site has added
her own comments - some of them are quite amusing!

Amusing?  Those dishes look pretty disgusting....    :þ    I was on WW in
the 60s when I ballooned up to 130 lbs after I quit smoking and NEVER saw
anything that THAT!   *GAG*

My mom had many old WW cards that we found after she died (she saved
*everything*). I went through them one afternoon and laughed at what
you were expected to eat back then.

Geeze,...  I don't remember any of that stuff  when I went on WW for those 2
to 3 months.   The baked fish didn't have heads on them *BARFF*.... and the
low-carb veggies were great.   I remember eating a lot of broccoli,
stingbeans, cauliflower etc.  Everything was good and it was healthy low-fat
food.  There were a lot of veggies and some fruit.  Nothing looked like
those pictures.

LOL, I wonder if anyone actually ate that stuff. At my meeting this week
some of the older members were talking about early WW plans and apparently
one of them was mainly tripe and liver, I love liver but couldn't eat it
every week and as for the tripe *bluergh*

Tripe and liver were the reason I quit the first time I joined WW.
Tripe??? Good GRIEF!!! My tastes have changed over the years to the
point where I prefer fish to beef - but ain't no way I'm ever gonna
eat organ meat. Nope.

Liver and kidneys are as far as I'll go but it is rare I'll have them as I'm
the only one in our house that will eat them.

When my Aunt and cousins went to WW in the 1960s it was liver once a week
and fish the other nights.  Lots of tuna as well, for lunch I think.  They
skipped the liver and tuna.  All 3 of them lost the weight (2 gained it all
back).

I'm not suprised if they were skipping meals :) I couldn't have done the
diet back then, having no variety in my menu would be torture.

# The amazing thing was how *FAST* they lost the weight.  All of them looked
wonderful.

#  You *can* do it if you really want to lose the weight, and they really
wanted to lose the weight.  However my cousin admitted the real problem was
"portion control" after the weight was gone, not the diet itself.   Since
they live by the river fish was always a large part of their diet, so that
was not a problem.  And of course WW allowed all kinds of fruit and veggies.
It was an effective diet that worked for everyone willing to follow it.

Portion control has been a problem for me in the past but I think with the
regular and sensible eating I've been doing the last 3 weeks I've gotten
that under control.

I've also learned portion control.   I wish I had started when I was
bedridden that 18 months.  I had no idea what was happening until my new Dr
ran tests.  By then I weighed 207 lbs and felt like I was going to die.  The
80 lbs would never have got a hold had the first Dr done the blood work.
See my website.  I was always average to thin:
