Thanks Lynne - I was amazed when I got on the scales tonight - WW leader was
amazed too ;-) I'm particularly pleased as I've had a sh*tty week
emotionally, which led to serious cravings for comfort eating, and it was
h*ll to resist, but resist I did. Getting on the scales this evening made it
all worthwhile. So I went out after WI and bought myself a treat - not a
cake - a new CD :-)

WOW! That is wonderful. Keep up the good work.

Now would you, PLEASE, share the whoosh fairy with the rest of the group.
Some of us could use it right now. <g>

Thanks Laura :-) I'm not sure why the Whoosh Fairy is being so apprently
kind to me, but it is much appreciated, I can tell you! On a slightly more
serious note, all I'm doing is eating three healthy meals a day, the odd
healthy snack (veg soup or a piece of fruit) and doing moderate exercise. My
cravings this week haven't been due to feeling hungry per se, but comfort
eating cravings as I've had a sh*tty emotional week. In reality I'm not
finding it difficult to stick to WW and pointing everything. Long may it
continue and I'm exceedlingly grateful it's going so well. I keep having to
pinch myself to check it's not a dream! I'm expecting any time to have a
catch-up where the weight loss slows and stalls... if it doesn't it'll be
highly unusual for me.

Cheers, helen s

That is remarkable - AGAIN!

Congrats.

Hopefully, at that dizzying pace, you will get a chance to learn
better, long-term eating behaviors.  Also, you do not want to think
that weightloss is too easy, as that could lead to backsliding
thinking... well, I can do it again, easily.

But in any event - WONDERFUL

Thanks Fred. Can't work out *how* I'm losing it so quickly as I'm eating
loads. I'm keeping a weather-eye on the rate of loss & if it continues, I
shall be off to the doc for a check-up. I'm prepared for a plateau period
where the rate slows to a dead loss, so that the weight loss averages out to
a couple of pounds a week over the longer term. That'll be when I need
support - to stay motivated :-)

Today is glorious - cold but bright sunshine, so I think I shall make the
most of it by getting out on my bike for a while, as the forecast for
tonight & tomorrow is heavy rain & gale-froce winds!

Which plan are you on? Judging by our weight losses I am guessing the new
Nocount plan. For newbies, this plan seems to work wonders. For anyone that
has been on WW and already eating "core-like", i.e low fat, the losses are
slower.

No, I point everything. Have done from the start. I deny myself nothing, so
to speak. It gets weighed and written in the diary before I eat it.

Sounds like you have it under control and a plan for the next step.

I was one of those lucky losers who lost consistently over the 9
months but slower than you.  It was not that hard - but Maintenance
is, well, more challenging.

Enjoy your weather.  We've had a too mild and sunny winter (hard to
say that, though) and hopefully, Spring will not dump on us.  I have
to think about training for a Century ride in June.

You've made a good decision. Going to meetings, and checking in here
for support will do you a world of good. Don't be afraid to ask
questions. The program works if you follow it properly.

When did you start WW?
Elaine Kirkham - 13 Feb 2005 19:54 GMT
I started this last time on 26 Nov 04 &  the time before that on 30 Oct
01 & by Aug 03, I had reached 184.6.  Then health problems stepped in. I
had arrhythmia & was put on beta blockers which caused me problems as
they slowed my metabolism right down & I started to slowly gain. I
wasn't doing too badly - had gained about 25 & was holding when I became
the care giver to my brother-in-law who enventually died of pancreatic
cancer and that resulted in the rest of my weight gain. I know this
sounds like excuses but this kind of stress, I can't seem to be able to
handle. Things have now settled down & I am once again going down. It
will be slower this time as I am still on low dose beta blockers. I have
not started back to exercising & I know once I do that, I will start
losing much faster. Since my spring cleaning will be starting shortly
(wall washing, etc) that is when my exercise begins and once the weather
improves I will also start walking once again. Hope this helps you.

Here's a short synopsis of the USA Flexpoints program by Joyce -

How many points you can eat is only based on your current weight, as you
lose weight those points allowed will decrease (logic is that your body will
need less to operate).   At 183 pounds and based on the new US flexpoints
system, you will have a set point target of 24.  In addition to this you are
allowed 35 flexpoints to be used throughout the week ... as well as any
activity points you earn on a particular day.  When your weight drops to
175, your target drops to 22 points ... weight reaches 150, target once
again drop to 20 points.  3 servings of dairy of recommended per day, 5
servings of fruit and veggies, minimum of 6 glasses of water.

To calculate food and activity points, I love this computer desktop
calculator ...
http://www.zythra.com/downloads/points.exe

The basic plan is easy.  Eat at least your minimum daily number of points.
Points do not carry over from day to day.  You are allotted 35 weekly
flexpoints to be used at your discretion ... can divide them up and use
daily (would be an additional 5 points per day) or save them and use them
for a special occassion during the week.  Activity points are earned based
when exercising, but can ONLY be used on the day they are earned.

Joyce
WW starting weight: 228.8 - 2/5/02
current weight:  133.3
Lifetime: 4/4/03

And here's an explanation of Core/No-count by Laura -

It is a great plan. You DO however need to make sure that you are eating at
your normal Flex plan target number of points. This can be difficult for
some and you WILL stop losing.

Here is the summary of the plan: http://ahwww.home.comcast.net/summary.htm
Here is the detail list of foods:
http://ahwww.home.comcast.net/wwcoreplan.htm

Basic rules:
1. Eat as much of the core foods as you need to feel "satisfied" (not full).
2. If you want to eat foods that are not on the core foods list use you 35
weekly points allowance (WPA).
Note: use these points on healthy foods and not junk.
3. Activity points are used to supplement the 35 WPA for Non-core food items
only. They must be used on the day they are earned.
Note: most people find that they will increase the amount of core foods
because they are hungrier due to exercising.
4. 2 teaspoons of heathy oil daily is required.

~Laura

Please note that if you live in onther countries (UK, Australia, NZ,
Europe), the Points plans are different.  The UK and Australia/NZ calculate
points based on saturated fat and total kilojoules.  Most of Europe
calculates based on total fat and total kilojoules.  The desktop calculator
above can handle all of these programs.

Disclaimer: As an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup, asdww is unusual in that
most of the people who participate are respectful, considerate folks who
freely share their experience with and knowledge of WW, weight loss, and
maintenance. Yet occasionally, spammers, trolls, and flamers show up to post
advertising, false information, insults, and the like. Nearly all of the
time, people like this are just trying to yank someone's chain. Most of the
regulars on this newsgroup offer their experience as a suggestion to try if
you're stuck, but are quick to advise that each person has to find what
works for him/herself. If someone posts something that doesn't sound right
to you, ask the newsgroup, ask your WW leader, or ask your health
professional.

Much success on your weight loss journey! WW works!
