Update on my week

Hi all,

Well, my WI is tomorrow night and I'm not sure how I feel about it.  I'm
pretty sure I'll be up a little due to T.O.M. this past week and not
exercising as much as I should have.

I did exercise 3 or 4x this week, but I feel I could have given more to
my workout, if that makes sense.  I did the Walk Away the Pounds DVD,
and those of you who've tried it know it's fairly easy, it feels TOO
easy sometimes, even for me being pretty out of shape.  So, maybe I did
do enough, maybe not, but I'm not going to let a possible gain affect my
motivation.

I stayed OP this week and used only 5 of my flex points, so I'm hoping
to maybe maintain.  I lost 6 pounds last week but I worked my butt off
for it.  I know not to expect that kind of loss every week (DARN!) but I
would like to see about a 2 lb loss per week.

Does anyone here use WATP regularly?  If so, what kind of results have
you seen from doing it steadily?  How long did it take to start seeing
results?  Any recommendations on other DVDs that are effective and
within my limits to do?  Those limits being pretty out of shape and not
ready for a high-impact workout.

Krista, you are not far behind from where I am.  I did notice that I needed
to drop my points when I reached the half way point of the range for my
points rather than eat the full 30 each day.  So I dropped mine to 29 when I
hit 262 lbs.  It made it a lot easier too when I made it to 249 to drop to
28 points a day.  Keep up the great work with your losses so far.  You are
doing great.

My problem is I have weak ankles.  Trying to strengthen them but it is not
easy.  With weak ankles, even walking can get painful if done too long.  I
can get low impact aerobics in at times but not often, so mostly it is
stretching, recumbent bike, and just plain constantly moving with the least
amount of ankle movement as possible.  I think the more weight I lose, the
better the ankles feel, well they last longer now than 10 pounds ago so I
think I am on to something here.  I have a self propelled treadmill that
makes a great clothes hanger.  Was actually thinking of putting it on EBay
and sticking with my total gym and recumbant bike.  Doc said no to treadmill
but to try stepper or elliptical at the gym as they have less impact.  I
just have to get to the gym and would much rather do things at home than go
out, but I do love the pool at the gym.

Krista:

WATP is the Leslie Sansone DVD right?  When I joined WW in Sept 2004, I
started using the Leslie Sansone 1 mile high, which is a 20 minute
workout and you use 1 1/2 or 2 lb weighted gloves.  I used to really
like that workout because it was quick, it was easy enough for me to
do, and I worked up a sweat and felt like I was accomplishing
something.  My starting weight at WW was 268 lbs and I really couldn't
do much as far as exercise.   In October 2004, I was motivated to join
Curves by a friend who had lost almost 100 lbs.   I don't know if you
have a Curves near where you live, if you do, you might want to give it
a try.  The workout is fairly easy and there's all kinds of women
there, fat, thin, young, old and everything in between.  Its a
half-hour workout and then a few minutes of stretching and then you're
done.  I enjoyed it and started working it into my schedule every day.
Tomorrow is my WI and I'm hoping to have lost at least 1.8 lbs which
would bring my total weight loss to 40 lbs.  People who go to "real"
gyms wouldn't think much of Curves, however, for a very unfit,
overweight person like me, it was just what I needed.

Curves is a great way to go I think, it just depend on what you want !!

If you want to just be active in a fun way and not have to think it over too
much, then I think Curve is just for you ! I also think that curves has more
of a "community feel" as in we're in this together..

If you want to work specific elements, or are striving to improve your
strenght and cardio to competitive levels, or are training for specific
event, then maybe you'd be better at home or at a gym...

That's what so cool about thewhole thing.. no matter what your goals are,
there's something out there for you :o)

No excuses !! ;o)

I've been wondering about the WATP tapes too. I bought one but our vcr died
before I got a chance to check it out. I'm one of those with 2 left feet and
this was supposed to be simple enough moves for me to follow. If the 1 mile
is not enough for you then try the 2 or 3 mile ones as they are longer. One
of the gals at my WW meetings loves the LS kickboxing tape. Maybe you can
work up to that.

I agree that an alternative would be curves. That's what I ended up joining.
While I don't think that it really helps in the weight loss area it
certainly is helping me lose inches. The toning benefits of the program are
great.

Thanks, all of you, for your replies.  I know a few people here that go
to Curves and I hear great things about it.  However, I'm a single
working mom with a 14 y/o daughter and money is an issue.  I can't
afford to spend $40 or so a month to go to Curves (on top of the $44 a
month I'm already paying for WW) when I could use that money to pay a
bill, so I'm doing what I can at home.

I appreciate the input!!  Thanks again.

I understand you financial dilema. Check your local library to see if they
have any exercise tapes or dvds. That would give you some to try out for
free. Do Blockbuster, etc rent exercise videos? That might be another
source. Check out the pilates tapes too. I know of several people that like
that too. Then when you find something you like, check out eBay or
amazon.com to see if you can find one to buy at a decent price.
