Hi all, I wanted to say "hi" and introduce myself. I started Weight
Watchers on April 5, with the beginning of our "Weight Watchers at Work"
program. I've always been afraid to try Weight Watchers because I assumed I
would be hungry all the time. (A lot of that feeling is a result of my
low-cal diets in the past---of course I lost weight on them, but I was
always ravenous and thinking about food.) I have also had success with
low-carbing, but never was able to stay on it for an extended period of
time. I know that I do much better with lower carbs, but I am pretty happy
that I can still have pizza and potatoes with WW, as long as I keep counting
the points....
Anway, as I said before, I was reluctant about trying Weight Watchers, but a
lot of my co-workers were going to start the WW at Work program (that I was
in charge of setting up since part of my job duties include running a small
Wellness program). I seriously didn't write my check for the program until
the morning of the first meeting, that is how unsure I was of doing this.
But, then I figured that I could do this for 10 weeks, and re-evaluate
things after then---mainly because my co-workers were doing it, and after
all, I *did* set up the program.
To make a long story short, we had our week 4 weigh in last Tuesday, and I
am down 16 pounds! For once in my life, I feel like this is a program I
could probably do for a lifetime. I finally feel more in control of my
food, and I like the idea that you can get more of healthier foods like
fruits and veggies for such a low amount of points! (More bang for your
buck, so to speak.)
I know that I can't expect to keep having these big losses each week, but I
have been very encouraged by my start, and I really haven't been as hungry
as I thought I would be. I just like being more aware and "accountable" for
my food choices. Before, I was eating with my head in the sand so to speak.
I frankly didn't care how much calories/fat, etc. the foods I ate had. I
can't believe what large portions I would eat without even caring! I felt
so uncomfortable and crappy eating like that, but I just sort of gave up and
consequently gained over 60 pounds in 5 years. Pretty scary. I really like
how much more aware I am of what I put in my mouth now.....and as my
wonderful WW leader says, "If you bite it, you write it". I have been
logging my food since the beginning, and it really helps.
Sorry for the ramblings, but I just wanted to introduce myself and I hope to
get to know all of you since we are all going through very similar things.
The support of my co-workers has been invaluable too.
Oh yes, and here are my stats as of last Tuesday's WI:
222.2/206/don't have a goal weight set...right now just taking one meal at a
time.

Welcome Sharon. Congratulations on the awesome progress in your 1st 3+
weeks with WW. The program works if you work it. Many of us on this
newsgroup came to WW after trying everything else out, even earlier
versions of WW. As you're discovering, the program fits so well with
real life, it hardly seems like a weight loss program, but more like
how a person should eat normally for good health while recognizing the
social and pleasurable aspects of food and eating.

I have the same problem with low carb. It's very effective but very
difficult to stay with.

What a great start. You must be feeling pretty good about it.

No, The weight loss tails off to 1-2 pounds a week. If you are always
losing more than that it's a good idea to add a point or two.

certainly does. I use fitday.com which makes it a bit easier than
logging everything in a book.

Here's a short synopsis of the USA Flexpoints program by Joyce -
How many points you can eat is only based on your current weight, as you
lose weight those points allowed will decrease (logic is that your body
will need less to operate). At 183 pounds and based on the new US
flexpoints system, you will have a set point target of 24. In addition
to this you are allowed 35 flexpoints to be used throughout the week ...
as well as any activity points you earn on a particular day. When your
weight drops to 175, your target drops to 22 points ... weight reaches
150, target once again drop to 20 points. 3 servings of dairy of
recommended per day, 5 servings of fruit and veggies, minimum of 6
glasses of water.
The basic plan is easy. Eat at least your minimum daily number of
points. Points do not carry over from day to day. You are allotted 35
weekly flexpoints to be used at your discretion ... can divide them up
and use daily (would be an additional 5 points per day) or save them and
use them for a special occassion during the week. Activity points are
earned based when exercising, but can ONLY be used on the day they are
earned.

It is a great plan. You DO however need to make sure that you are eating
at your normal Flex plan target number of points. This can be difficult
for some and you WILL stop losing.

Basic rules:
1. Eat as much of the core foods as you need to feel "satisfied" (not full).
2. If you want to eat foods that are not on the core foods list use you 35
weekly points allowance (WPA).
Note: use these points on healthy foods and not junk.
3. Activity points are used to supplement the 35 WPA for Non-core food items
only. They must be used on the day they are earned.
Note: most people find that they will increase the amount of core foods
because they are hungrier due to exercising.
4. 2 teaspoons of heathy oil daily is required.

Please note that if you live in onther countries (UK, Australia, NZ,
Europe), the Points plans are different. The UK and Australia/NZ
calculate points based on saturated fat and total kilojoules. Most of
Europe calculates based on total fat and total kilojoules. The desktop
calculator above can handle all of these programs.

Hi Sharon.
I started my WW journey at at WWatWork program. I found it great to have
the support of my colleagues. I'm a highly competitive person, and it
turned into a competition amongst us, who could lose the most weight the
quickest. Well I won, but my group disbanded. I'm now at a community
meeting where I have 50 people to compete with.

Hi Sharon, welcome to the group! Isn't ww wonderful? I remember also being
fearful of trying it when I first started 3 years ago (i've slipped a bit and have
returned to program), and was happily surprised to find that this isn't a typical
"diet" - it is something that can be and should be a way of life. Congrats on
