Ok, a day late on posting ... but here it is anyway.

I'm having some issues with my much loved scale (you know how attached I am to
that dr. office balance beam scale).  The dang balance level is getting stuck
somewhere, like something internal is bent.  It will stay at the bottom of the
area to tell me I am lighter than the previous week ... I can get it to go to the
top so I know I am not that light yet (lol) ... but between those two points it is
stuck in one permanent area - soooooo, told me I was somewhere between 159.5 and
164 (the top and bottom weights).  I took a wild stab in the dark and logged 163
as my current weight ... just kept moving the slider bars little by little and
took the weight it read before it began to hit the area where the balance thing is
sticking.  OK, then I went out and bought a step on scale.  I panicked, have to
have something a bit more reliable (although I am hoping that this issue with the
scale will not continue, maybe it is only being temperamental).  Weighed myself
again this morning on the new scale ... 163.2 (after coffee) so must have guessed
fairly accurately.  I'm sticking with 163.

Here are the results:

last weeks weight:  164.5
current weight: 163 lbs
Weight change: -1.5 lbs

Doing good, headed in the right direction still.  No foreseeable challenges in the
upcoming week, as our mothers day celebration will be postponed until next week
when all kids are available.  The biggest problem I am having this week is
undereating, not getting my points in.  I even splurged on a glass of wine this
evening, and am still a few points shy.  Not gonna worry, I'm sure I will make up
for it somewhere. <g>

A second glass of wine sounds good :-)
Congrats on the loss, Joyce, it 's great to see you posting again and back
on track. As for your scales, I hope they are indeed just temperamental, and
reacting against the fact that you want to lose again, so they 'll have to
work more!

Great loss this week, Joyce. Maybe your beloved scale doesn't like the
160s and will cooperate once you're in the next decade. Great job of
guessing your weight!

Mother's Day may seem weird this year after your mom's death. Father's
Day was bad for my family the year of my father's death. Maybe it's
still hard for us and that's why we act as if it were any other Sunday
and don't do anything. Anyway, I like your plan to wait a week until
everyone can gather. I'm celebrating Mother's Day already. One of my
daughters arrived yesterday for a long weekend. This morning we're
going for a bike ride to eat breakfast at a local favorite bakery.
Don't know if it's possible to work off enough calories to compensate
for the yummies!

Thanks.  I'm hoping the same, that the scale just doesn't like the 16x numbers ...
I can hope.  On the plus side, the scale I bought appears to read extremely close
to what I am "guessing" on the beloved one.  Not bad considering the digital
measures in tenths and the balance beam one measures in quarter pounds.

Mothers day was a bit off, I expected it to be.  Ya know, we handle valentine's
day the same way you do Fathers day ... act like it's just any ol' normal day.  It
was my dad's birthday and we didn't like him getting lost in the shuffle of a
hallmark holiday ... and hub and I continue the practice.    Tonite is our bday
and mothers day celebration, a bit late - but if you remember, our family is
always running late on these things. <g>

Sounds like you have a wonderful plan for spending time with your daughter.  I
hope I reach that point with mine someday ... right now her idea of "bonding" is
taking me and my wallet out shopping. <g>

You certainaly are getting off to a great start.

I have never liked the doctor type of scale. They have one at Curves and I
never know if I am making the right "guess" at the weight. I'd rather have
the "step on scale" as you call it. What brand of scale did you get?

I'm the opposite, adore the balance beam scales as they are so much more accurate
and consistent.  I had one for 20 years before it began giving me trouble ... the
new one seemed to bog up faster.  BUT ... I think it has had some help from my
daughters friend who insisted on moving it all over the place (and banging it
along the way).  He couldn't figure out why his weight would not change no matter
where he moved the scale. <g>

After doing some research and reading some reviews, I opted for the weightwatchers
branded (by Conair - WW60 I think) digital memory scale - no body fat monitoring,
as I have heard they are pretty unreliable. So far I have been amazed by this
scale, readings are extremely consistent - same reading when stepping on and off
multiple times, as well as shuffling it around the room.  There was a 1 pound
variance between hardwood floors and carpeted floors (I tested just for grins).
The scale is listed on the ww website marketplace, or at conair ... but I found it
for $15 cheaper at Amazon ... and got free shipping. <g>

I saw the WW scale for sale at Ulta Cosmetics last week. Looks very
nice. I'm glad to hear that it accuracy matches it precision.

Dang!  I never thought to look at Ulta.  I hit Target, Walmart, Penneys, etc. - no
one carried this scale so I had to resort to the online method.  So far so good,
haven't noticed any variations at all.  Even if it isn't "exact", the fact that it
seems to give me the same result continuously is more important.  I can at least
be sure that I am going down ... or up.

Congratulations on the loss this week!  You're doing wonderfully well since
starting back OP.  Wish I could say the same :-)

Bummer about the scales, buy maybe like Linda says, they will cooperate
more when you're below the 160's!  The new scales sound like they are
pretty much correct though, so at least you have those if the others fail
you
again.

Thank you!  I am doing well, surprising myself - almost too well though.  I
noticed this week after going back through my journals that I don't think I am
eating near enough - somewhere around 18-20 points, usually towards the low end.
Always something to work at, as I tend to lose less weight when eating less.
Ahhhhhh, this week should be much different - too much going on. LOL

Have hubby or son look over the scale - no, not when you are on it (G)

But down is good

around to it. <g>

Great loss Joyce, you don't do things by halves do you ;-) Sorry about
the scales though. I hate changing scales.
Joyce - 14 May 2005 21:56 GMT
This week is closer to that half range ... more on that later. <g>

Thanks for the kind words and support, they are soooooo appreciated.  I hated
switching scales too, but so far I think I like the new one.  It's being kind
anyway. <g>
