Well here I am again whinny and feeling sorry for myself. I joined Weight
watchers in 2002 and in 2003 made lifetime with a loss of over 55 pounds. I
felt great to a point but was extremely proud of myself. Well here is 2
years later and I am up 15 pounds of that loss and am heading back tomorrow
to the meetings. I was still going once a month but didn't seem to do
anything about the weight gain.
I have rheumatoid arthritis and am struggling with 3 different medicines, 2
of which say weight gain is a side effect.  I have had terrible trouble with
my feet, I use to go to the gym 5 days a week, then it went to3 and now it
is NONE!!! I try and walk but by the end of the day at work my feet and hips
hurt so bad that I don't feel like doing anything.
I wonder how well weight watchers works if you don't exercise at all, I am
hoping to maybe go to the gym and ride the bike, or maybe try a water swim
class, although I am allergic to chlorine so we will see.
It is so depressing watching all the clothes that I had been wearing last
year, now barely zip and feel so tight, I hate it.
I know I have no one to blame but me, but I am really starting to lose
motivation and just get in a mind state that says who cares!  I am in
constant pain so I figure why care about how I look, I know that is wrong
but constant daily pain sure gets you down, and my energy level,w ell I
don't have one that is how low it is.
I would love to hear form some that have lost weight in spite of exercise. I
have to get this 15 pound off and would like to actually go for another 10
if possible, I was on the high end of my goal range.
Thanks for listening, anyone else out there with RA that is on weight
watchers?
I take enbrel, methotrexate, plaquienil and naproxen.  Sure wish Bextra
would come back on the market!!
Thanks again

Well, I don't have RA, but I can tell you I've lost 43lbs doing no more
exercise than going to the kitchen and microwaving my next meal.  WW is
designed to be able to work without exercise (thus the activity points
adding more food), so you *can* do it.  This is especially important for
people like me (and you, altho for different reasons) who can't really
do exercise.

Hopefully that's half-helpful :)

I have not been diagnosed with anything but I have lost the majority of my
weight without formal exercise, I started at 251.6 and am now at 161 with a
low of 151.2 I am struggling with the last bit but I know I will get there,
and with your medical conditions, eating better and avoiding what makes you
inflame might help, Lee

Becky...
I have lost 50 lbs so far, without exercising.. The only exercise I get is
walking my daughter to school and back each day...

recently I got a treadmill..and it hasn't made me lose more weight...

so I say.. YES you can do WW and not exercise.. I am living proof!

btw.. I am on two steroids.. and I am hypothryoid... which is three strikes
against me when it comes to losing weight..but I have achieved GREAT results
so far.. I want to lose at least 20 more lbs :)

Congrats on getting yourself back in the game.. that is half the battle!

Exercise is great for health, but it's very highly overrated when it
comes to weight loss. Usually when people start doing exercise they
'treat' themselves afterwards to a beer or a sandwich and that
effectively negates the calorie loss.

I've lost lots of weight with almost no cardio. I do however lift
weights regularly. I guess you just have to do what you can.

Also exercise doesn't have to be treadmill, bike etc. Walking is a
great start. Even just being more active is good. Parking at the wrong
end of the car park (there's always a space there), and walking up
stairs instead of taking the lift etc, even fidgeting more is supposed
to help.

I don't know anything about RA or those medications.
Has your doctor spoken about glucosamine?

Thanks for all the encouragement. I went to the meeting and it was helpful.
I just need to get out of my head that I can't do it with out exercise.  I
tried walking a mile today but could only do it for about 15 minutes at a
moderate pace, the ra is to bad in my feet and it hurts my knees also. I may
look into water aerobics if there isn't to much chlorine in the pool.
Just taking one day at a time that is all I can do.
Thanks for the encouragement,
Angel are you in Washington?

There is something called chair aerobics or something like that.  You sit in
a chair and move your arms, etc to get a work out.  Maybe something like
this might work for you.

and think of it this way, eating right without the exercise will at the very
least get your body in a place to be more ready to lose if they get the
medications sorted, Lee, wishing you luck

Welcome back Becky.  Losing weight won't just make you look better, it
will make you feel better too.  I'm betting your pain level will go down
if you aren't carrying around that extra weight.  I know my blood
pressure is down and my knees and back don't hurt like they did when I
was overweight.

As others have said, you *can* lose weight without exercise.  Exercise
has a lot of other benefits, but it is possible to do without it.

Good luck.  Stick around and let us know how you go.

Becky, please do not be so hard on yourself. I think that you are doing
pretty darn good. I gained (from stress) almost 100 pounds - so I think
that 15 is wonderful ;-D  Pills can also make you gain - or not lose at
all. The medication I'm on slows my metabolism down terribly & I really
have to work hard for my losses.  Just do your best and try & realize
that by coming back, you should, at least, stop the gaining. Since you
are having feet trouble, you will have to revamp your exercise routine.
Can you do biking? the reclining  stationery ones should have the least
impact on your joins, but if you can't manage that, how about chair
exercises? And yes, WW's does work even if you don't exercise, but you
have to really work at it - but you must be very strict - no days off
program ;-(  I wish you all the best under such trying circumstances and
hope to hear in the near future that you've had some kind of a loss.
