Lost 5 pounds this week ;-D

I have been sick for a week & a half with a bad chest cold - coughing
like crazy. I didn't realize coughing was exercise - but it must have
been, because even though I ate my points every day & did almost nothing
except sleep, I actually lost 5 pounds. I wonder how many points an
hours coughing earns you ;-D  Next goal is (1) to lose 2.8 & have 80 off
(2) to lose 4.3 & be under 250. I know it will take several weeks for me
to reach either of them - but I will reach them!

Wow, that's a lot in one week.  Something tells me, tho, it was more the
fact your body's metabolism was geared up to fight off the cold than it
was the coughing burning off calories ;)

A week and a half of coughing, tho.. I imagine your chest hurts worse
than mine, right now.  I'm curious how my week will turn out: Sunday was
no more than 10 points for me (I wasn't too careful about journaling,
being ill, and I'm not the one who buttered my toast), and yesterday was
no more than 20 points because I didn't want to push my stomach.  So
hey, maybe I'll have a 5lb loss this week too :)

Hooray for being sick?

Don't be surprised if you don't have the loss that you expect! I did
manage to eat all the points that I'm supposed to (on flex). Sometimes
when you are sick & don't eat, you can actually have a gain. I sure wish
you luck in your weigh in. I wouldn't be surprised if next week I show a
gain ;-(

Keep up the great work!  I'm always the opposite, I tend to gain weight if
I'm sick and not very active, regardless of whether I'm coughing up a lung
or not.

how much do lungs weigh anyway?

Elaine Kirkham - 25 Oct 2005 19:42 GMT
I've never had a loss as large as this from being sick - but then again,
I was sicker that I usually have been in the past. I still expect to
show a gain next week - Time will tell.

a doctor friend told me that one of the reasons I almost always gain when I
am sick is because I don't get enough fluids, when I push the fluids I don't
lose but gain much less, Lee

That's probably the best explanation.  When I'm really sick I don't care to
eat *or* drink.

I think that the reason I lost so much might be that I was drinking
twice my usual water - probably about 12 glasses a day along with other
fluids - I was just so thirsty. Water is definitely one of the things
that help me lose!

so the lesson is?  repeat after me, drink water to lose!!! Lee, who truly hates water but loves what it does

Have you tried putting cucumber slices in it?

Makes it taste all fresh and stuff !

Takes off the "smoker taste".. I used to hate water when I was smoking still..

My issue with water is that I was raised on deep well water at my mom's and spring water at my grandmother's, any chemicals just make it horrid, I can barely get it down, if I drink it warm and with lemon it works, and unless it gags me at some point I will always try to get the required amount, I do notice a difference in my losses and how I feel, never heard of cucumbers, may have to try that, Lee

Thanks Lee. The coughing is slowly easing off. I have been able to start
exercising - an hours walk on Monday & an hours senior's aerobic class
today - and that without gasping ;-D  So it looks like I will survive.
It's nice to feel alive again even though I am still coughing sporadically.
