aurora - 14 Nov 2005 22:24 GMT Hello everyone, Let me give you some history. Well I am 29 yrs old, F 5'6" tall, and now weigh 186 lbs. In January 2005 I weighed 262 lbs bu I lost it by walking 6 miles every day and eating clean. I never used set nutrition program just stayed away from the fried foods, candy soda, etc. I am here because sometime in August 2005 I hit a platea and even changing my exercise routine did not help. I started LC i mid Sept because I had had previous success with it. I really enjo it, and have been on it now for about 2 months. (strictly induction, n cheating) My problem is that I lost 8 lbs within the first 3 weeks an nothing there after. I now walk about a mile a day only. Since I los the weight my hip joints hurt a lot. Kinda like arthiritis. Now I a always so fatigued. and I know I lost a lot of muscle mass. I feel s weak. I've been reading a lot about cyclic ketogenic diets and woul like to try one, for the fat loss, then cut up later.(my goal in not t be a body builder, just thin and healthy!) I am a size 16 pant size but still have a dangerous 41 1/2 inch waist (apple shape). M question, on the days that I carb up (since I want to lose fat first should I do cardio or resistance? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks, Auror

If you have hit a plateau at this stage (assuming no medical conditions - if so see a doctor) it means you are eating too much. A simple diet of cutting out crap and exercising will work for a time, but eventually you have to do a bit more than that.
LC is a good idea to change things round a bit, and it suits some people well. The initial 8 pounds lost will be just water weight. Basically it sounds like you are still eating at maintenance. I assume your weight fluctuates a lot if you are doing a weekly carb up?
You shoiuld log everything you eat and drink in fitday.com for a couple of weeks to see how many calories you consume, then depending on how much you've lost in the meantime, cut back by about 500-1000 calories a day.
However before starting that you should probably eat 'normally' or maybe a little over maintenance for 2 weeks. This will reset your metabolism, which after a good few months of dietting is probably a little suppressed.
CKD is a bit complicated for someone who is still obese, but you could try www.bodyrecomposition.com for some pointers. Start with the diet sections, but take a look at the womens section too.
You might find cardio is pretty difficult on a strict KD, or even a CKD. Resistance training is the way to go, or at least that's my excuse:)

One of the biggest problems people have is not eating enough when dieting. I know that sounds crazy at first, but it's true. If WW didn't work for you, you may very well have been eating too little.
Your body needs a certain number of calories a day just to function, even if you don't do any exercise at all. If you're not even getting that number, and then add a bunch of exercise and work on top of it, your metabolism will completely shut down, because it's scared you're going to die from lack of food.
If your daily point target was 24 points, and you didn't eat every single one of them, you probably didn't lose weight. If you exercised and didn't use any of those points, you probably didn't lose weight. If you never used any of your flex points, you probably didn't lose weight. Put all three together, and you get.. no weight loss.
So, while it's good to make sure you're not eating too much, you also need to make very sure you're not eating too *little*. That'll screw you up even worse than overeating, because you have no idea you're doing things wrong. At least if you're stuffing your face with pecan pie, you know why you're not losing.
So that's my two cents. Don't fear the food! Just don't eat all of it :)

Don't be afraid. Just be cautious in adding a bit more at a time and keep watching the scale. Give yourself a month to see how this works. I do a lot of social eating so I balance those days with the ones where I cook at home. At home I am conscious of the program, points, and the right foods so it balances the meals where I have no control over the choices. It works.

First eat at about maintenance for a couple of weeks or even a LITTLE above. Log EVERYTHING into fitday.com to find out what your maintenance calories are. people are terrible at recording calories so make sure you do it properly.
Then drop by 500 calories a day or a 1000 if you gained a pound or so.
when you've been dietting for a while and especially if you diet hard your metabloism will crash. This will make you feel awful and you will find it increasingly difficult to lose weight. Eating at maintenance for a while will reset your metabolism quite quickly, and allow you to get back on track with losing.
