Diet Plateau

Hello--

I'm new here, and this seems like a very lively and active group.  I'm
happy to be a part of it.  In any case, I come to this group with a
question: I just lost my first 10% and I'm about 13lbs away from my
goal weight.  However, the minute I got my 10% keychain, my weightloss
came to a screeching halt. Yes, you guessed it: the diet plateau.

I didn't lose anything for three weeks, then I lost, gained, and lost
again.  All in all, I'm down 2lbs in 6 weeks.... which isn't a lot, and
I'm frustrated with the whole thing, even though I've been successful
with it in the past.  Every article I've read on the plateau says to
increase the intensity of your exercise (check), add in weights (check)
and go back to the beginning and count every.  last.  thing.  you put
into your mouth (check again).  In addition, all the conventional
wisdom says that I'm gearing up for a very sudden drop (I can actually
*see* my body reshaping itself.  It's very cool.).

I was wondering if anyone here has experienced this plateau and, if so,
what they did to get past it.  If you're willing to share, I'm eager to
listen.  :-)

Thanks!

You could try eating different things than the ones you usually eat. Fo
example, if you have been eating the same or similar breakfast fo
months, try something new (keeping in mind the calories and nutritiona
value of course). Same goes for lunch and/or dinner

I recently experienced a several week plateau - before breaking the 100 kg
barrier. It was very frustrating - much like yours.

I examined what I was eating and I think it was attributable to sugary
sucking candies. Even though I counted the calories correctly they really
seemed to be stopping my weight loss.

I gave them up and started dropping again right away.

Maybe there is *something* in your regular diet that is hurting your diet.

You should be asking "has anyone not experienced a plateau" :o)

2 lbs in 6 weeks is 0.5 a week. which technically isn't a plateau. You're
still losing. I understand the frustration though, we all want 2 to 5 lbs
per week.

One thing to consider is that the closest you get to goal, the slower the
loss (I know I know frustrating).

Thing is you don't want to get real radical about it, just do your thing,
try to shake things up a little (maybe your body got used to your exercise
regimen or your foods) and keep working at it.

It'll come off, it WILL !

I haven't yet, even when I lost over 150 lbs before.  I'm sure that now
since I don't have as much to lose and I'm doing it so sensibly and slowly
that it's bound to happen though!

welcome to this great group!!! here are my thoughts as the queen of
plateaus,:

1.  Were you at your current weight for a while when on your way up?  if so
then your body might want to stay there.
2. if you see your body reshaping then measure and see if the inches go
down, not unlike a loss it can be very rewarding.
3. are you eating enough?  if I do not eat every point I do not lose.
4. I am playing with the same ten pounds and have done for almost a year, it
is my contention that if I gave up I would gain all I lost back and then
some so giving up is NOT an option, I enjoy the 90 ish pounds being gone, so
while I would rather be at goal, being where I am is better than where I
was.
5. 2 pounds in six weeks is just fine,

good luck, post often, Lee
