I finally decided that it was time to lose the extra weight.  In my
highscool days I was always around 180 pounds.  It's ironic because I can
still remember a time when I was desperately trying to put weight on.  I
wanted to get to 200 pounds as I was starting to weight train.

Well as I got older and the metabolism started to slow a bit I got to 200
and even more.  A few months ago I had topped out at 230.  I am 5'9 and that
weight was way to much for me.

My biggest vices have always been fastfood (especially pizza) and sodas.  I
tried atkins but the inability to drink sodas and eat bread on that diet
ultimately doomed me.  My wife said that she wanted to try ww a few weeks
ago and I told her I would try it with her.  We weighed in exactly three
weeks ago and I was at 221 pounds.

I followed the points very closely and was able to lose 5 pounds down to 216
in the first week.  This was great because I still got to drink my 2 cokes a
day and I was eating well with good low point snacks.  I figured that it was
that magic first week weight loss that I have heard so many people talk
about and that it would slow down pretty fast.

Well at the end of two weeks at our second weigh in, I had lost another 5
pounds down to 211.  This was great because I had even slipped up once
during the week and had a late night pizza snack.  As of today, in my third
week I am down to 206.  The weight has come off very quickly.

I think the biggest keys have been exercise and meal/snack planning.  My
wife and I shop together for specific meals that will be filling and taste
great.  She made enchilladas that were delicious and only about 7 points for
a nice sized serving.  We also eat lots of pop corn and fruit.  I ride a
stationary bike at least 5 times a week for 20 minutes as well.

I live by a motto that one day cannot make or break you.  It comes in handy
in the best of times and the worst of times.  So many people give up if they
have a bad day.  The trick is to just get back to the plan the next day.  We
all slip up every once in a while.  Don't let that be an excuse to give up.
Additionally, nobody ever met there goal in a single day.  Make a plan for
the long term that's fun and that you can commit to.

Welcome aboard Will, and congrats on your super losses so far.  I agree with
everything you have written ... especially your motto that one day alone is not a
killer.  That's the best thing about ww, it IS a program you can follow for the
rest of your life.  If I splurge one meal or one day, I can always get right back
where I want to be at the first opportunity.  I've followed ww since Feb. 2002,
honestly can say that I never once have been unhappy or had deprived feelings.  I
eat what I want - just have learned to make smarter choices and control portions.

Enjoy those *real* sodies now. <g>  As your daily point allowances decrease (they
will as you lose weight) you might have to find somewhere to let loose of a few
points.  I found that soda was one place I had to give on.  Now I have maybe 1
soda a week ... if that. <sigh>

Keep up the great work and I wish the best to you and your wife for continued
success on your journey.  You've found a great place to be for advice, hints,
tips, support and a gentle kick in the behind if you feel you need it (you have to
ask for it though).  I hope to hear more from you in the future.

Thanks Joyce.  I will be sure to post my progress as well as that of my
wife.  She also is doing well and enjoying the many options this diet
affords.

With that attitude, you'll succeed for sure.  Way to go Will.

You seem to have the right attitude and certainly are doing extremely
well.

Yup, with WW, there is not STOPPER.  A bad day, is just that ONE BAD
DAY.  You do not need induction or anything else to return to program.
And as you've learned - eat in moderation and still feel full.

Welcome to the group, Will. I love your attitude and your progress so far.
You are dong great. As someone has pointed out you may want to learn to
limit your soda intake. Not only do they add extra points to your day but
also a lot of sodium. I used to drink a lot of diet pepsi until I noticed
how much sodium there is in a bottle. I have learned to drink water, fruit
flavored seltzer or Very Fine's Fruit 2 O flavored water. All with splenda
and low sodium.

Hi Will. Welcome aboard this great newsgroup. Congratulations on getting rid of
so much weight in such a short time. WW's sure is wonderful, isn't it? You can
lose weight and still eat your favs - even though it's portion controlled. I
love it!

Here's a short synopsis by Joyce -

How many points you can eat is only based on your current weight, as you
lose
weight those points allowed will decrease (logic is that your body will need
less
to operate).   At 183 pounds and based on the new US flexpoints system, you
will
have a set point target of 24.  In addition to this you are allowed 35
flexpoints
to be used throughout the week ... as well as any activity points you earn
on a
particular day.  When your weight drops to 175, your target drops to 22
points ...
weight reaches 150, target once again drop to 20 points.  3 servings of
dairy of
recommended per day, 5 servings of fruit and veggies, minimum of 6 glasses
of
water.

To calculate food and activity points, I love this computer desktop
calculator ...
http://www.xmission.com/~zythra/downloads/points.exe

WW suggests your ideal weight should be somewhere between 116 and 145
depending on
your age.

The basic plan is easy.  Eat at least your minimum daily number of points.
Points
do not carry over from day to day.  You are allotted 35 weekly flexpoints to
be
used at your discretion ... can divide them up and use daily (would be an
additional 5 points per day) or save them and use them for a special
occassion
during the week.  Activity points are earned based when exercising, but can
ONLY
be used on the day they are earned.

If you can afford $15/month, the online ww program might be a great thing
for you
to look into.  There is lots of information available, as well as the food
point
database and journaling system.

Disclaimer: As an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup, asdww is unusual in that
most of the people who participate are respectful, considerate folks who
freely share their experience with and knowledge of WW, weight loss, and
maintenance. Yet occasionally, spammers, trolls, and flamers show up to post
advertising, false information, insults, and the like. Nearly all of the
time, people like this are just trying to yank someone's chain. Most of the
regulars on this newsgroup offer their experience as a suggestion to try if
you're stuck, but are quick to advise that each person has to find what
works for him/herself. If someone posts something that doesn't sound right
to you, ask the newsgroup, ask your WW leader, or ask your health
professional.

Much success on your weight loss journey! WW works!
