Giving Core a try again

I've been doing some thinking, I've been working on figuring out why I am
always so tired.. and I think one of the thing is that:

1- I drink entirely too much coffee (I'm working on that, had only 1 coffee
today and didn't finish it, ok it was an almost 3 cup coffee, but still !!)

2- I eat within my points but not the right foods. Too much of what I eat is
not worth the points nutritionally. Since I'm eating less, I need to have
nutritionally dense food right? that means that I've got to have more bang
for my pts. I'm thinking that by going core, I'd get used to eating those
yummy healthy foods that got me so successful before. If I can't get a grip
on the "eat until you're satisfied, I'll go back to flex but eat only core
foods. I've started today, and honestly I already feel like my body isn't
"needing" anything. It's a good feeling.

Another thing that I've been thinking about is that I've been doing points
for 3 years now, with a few core interludes. I'm so used to it that it's not
"interesting" anymore. I know the pts of everything I eat or almost and
don't find enjoyment at organizing my days anymore. Today I had a blast
finding out what I could eat and what is core and not etc.

here's what I had today

Breakfast:
WW cup of oatmeal with natural applesauce
Coffee with a WW smoothie (it's core but only 1 a day)

Lunch:
Shrimp stir fry (from Trader Joes) With a little bit of garlic olive oil to
cook it to get my good fats in.
Fat free sugar free jello cup

Snack:
veggies soup
Jello cup (I had a second one cause I forgot the first.. oops)

While I was cooking dinner I had baby Carrots

Dinner:
Spiced Barley pilaf (from Stir it up cookbook p. 211)
Cajun Blackened salmon (from Flex & Core cookbook p. 176)
Grilled asparagus
Diet Iced tea (I think it's core gotta look it up !!)

That's where I am now. The food was yummy (dinner was HEAVENLY) and I'm
feeling better and more confident than I have in a long time. It was fun to
look things up again !!

My daughter is in her senior year of college and she has been doing a
lot of her own cooking at her sorority house.  She is trying to stick to
WW too and has found that if she makes herself "warm meals" for lunch
and dinner using 1/2 cup of brown rice as the base with lean protein and
veggies on top, she is more satisfied and has more energy for the day.

Your evening meal sounds so good.  You are probably right about needing
to get out of a rut and stirring things up a bit.

My daughter was cooking the last year she was away at college and sticking
to WW at the same time, she swore by her crock-pot, putting the stuff on in
before class so she could have a hot meal between he afternoon and evening
classes.

Debbie

PS Where does your daughter go to school and what sorority is she a part of?
I know you are not living far from me, but that does not mean a thing when
it comes to where our kids go to school.  My daughter is at CSU Monterey Bay
and is a founding member of Delta Omega Rho Sorority that is on campus
there.

I love that boost that comes from doing something a little different. I have
been going high nutrient lately too. maybe it is spring cleaning....--

Another spring cleaner!  That's what I was doing today :-)  Scrubbing
floors,
moving furniture, washing windows & laundry, up and down the stairs, etc.,
etc....

Back to work tomorrow, then more of that spring cleaning on the weekend!

I started in yesterday, I do mine from the inside out, so I do the cabinets,
wash all the dishes, re arrange and see if there are things I can get rid
of, I am about 3/4 of the way through the kitchen china cabinet, since I
haven't been feeling well this is working because I can rest while the DW is
running and not feel guilty, Lee

I don't go to that extreme, but I do go through the cabinets that have
foodstuff in them.  If there's something in there that I know we won't ever
use (my grandma shops once or twice a week and buys stuff she thinks we will
like), then I box it up and take it to DS school for the food bank.

Also, things like small bags of flour, yeast or items that are getting
really old and probably won't work well in recipes anymore I throw out.

I have someone building me a pantry in the large closet just outside my
kitchen, so this weekend I will be able to pack away all my canned goods and
canning that I did from last summer into that space.  I also have kitchen
appliances that are not used regularly that I store in there.  It will be
nice to get them out of the living room and back into the closet once again!

I do a thoroughly job just once a year, I should do more but frankly am too
lazy.  I do it this thoroughly because we live in the middle of corn fields,
so it often is very dusty, and between the dust from the soil being turned
and the cat hair I think I need to do it like this, I wish I could skip it
but I can't, Lee

I think so, I can't wait to get it organized.  It looks really great and
there's
so much room for storage.  Before there was a lot of wasted space for
hanging jackets, etc., but we never used it.

part of the reason I am trying core again is that I wanted to try and see if
it would make traveling easier, I will do it for 4 weeks to test this
theory, if I end up the same at the end of the four weeks I will have an
answer to the travel question, and I will have eaten healthily while finding
it out.  I also figure that a change in the variety can't hurt me, sorry
about that coffee thing, addicted and will probably always be, I will be
entirely impressed if you can cut back let alone quit, Lee

Travelling and staying OP is tough.  Let us know how Core works
for you.  I also have cut way down on coffee.  I used to have 3 to 4
cups a day, but am down to 1 now.  Sometimes don't even finish
the 1.

Don't trust myself enough to try core, at least not yet.  Perhaps one day
when
I can be sure that the portions are under control.  Right now Flex is
working for
me and I'm sticking to what's working.

I will do it until after march 12 because that is the last bit of traveling
for a bit and I will have a good picture, it does seem I am eating more
dairy but less over all, Lee

Yes, that should give you a good picture of how it works for you while
travelling.  I hope it goes well, as it would sure make being away from home
easier in the food department, especially if you are away for more than a
few days.  Trying to count points while eating in restaraunts could be
difficult.
Good luck with Core and do let us know how it goes.

when we travel it can be for one night or three depending on my work, and
counting points is a bite on the road, and even if I determine that I can
just maintain on core but make the travel easier that will be fine, Lee

Lee, I was at goal through December and even with all the holiday stuff.
I was just eating less.  Then in January I was out of town about 12 days
and some of them were with groups where I had meals that were totally
off plan.  I still do not make wise choices in a social setting.  I
"punished" myself by weighing in when I went to weekly meetings knowing
I was over goal and would have to pay.  I skipped this past week because
I had a conflict with my meeting time and also because I want to give
core a try as much as possible.  My last WI was 2/16 and I was exactly
3.4 over goal so I hope to be down 1.4 by this coming Thursday and not
have to pay.  I am actually doing much better on core than I thought I
would.  My sweet treat is now 1/2 cup of sugar free/fat free pudding
with fresh berries. Instead of sandwiches for lunch I've been doing soup
and salad or nf cottage cheese with fresh fruit and salad.  I will let
you know how I do when I weigh in on 3/2.

That's great Audrey that you are so close to goal.  I'm almost there
too finally.  Its taken so long for me (at least it seems so)  At my
WI last week I was .4 lbs from being in the no pay zone!  Hopefully
this wednesday I will be there.
