An odd question

Hello Everyone

I've been lurking here for just over a year now and in that time I have lost
around 50 pounds, going from 197 to 147.  So, before I ask the question I'd
like to say thanks for the help and inspiration I've got from reading the
posts on here several times a day! :-)

I've just bought a pedometer and, out of interest, tried it with my hula
hoop to see if it registered.  It did!  So, the question is, can hula
hooping be compared with walking or is just a way to cheat the pedometer?

I've been searching the internet but can't find an answer so I thought I
would ask the experts ;-))

Thank you,
Maureen

First off - WTG on the big loss!

Pedometers use a pendulum type mechanism to register movement which counts
as "steps" so anything that moves your waistband usually is registered.  In
a different group I frequent, we had pedometer challenges and one woman
noticed that dropping her drawers to use the restroom counted as 8 steps :)

That being said, I don't see why using the hula hoope wouldn't count for you
as much as taking a step seeing that it's actual activity.  I take my
pedometer off when doing any "formal" exercise activity and take 10% off the
daily total to account for miscellaneous.
