I know I have the stuff at home for the core plan but I want to keep it
simple. I have the book to look up everything but I'm trying to decide if
it will be compatible for me. Basically speaking when you're on core you
don't eat any white flour or sugar, right? Everything else is up for grabs
whether it be one portion per day, specific cereals only, or on the core
list to be eaten "til satisfied," etc. Is that the basic gist of it?
I am trying to decide how much of my daily foods would actually need to
change for this. Ditch the Fiber One cereal, keep the fat free/sugar free
yogurt. No bread, but one serving of whole wheat pasta or my brown & wild
rice mix is ok. No WW entrees with regular pasta (lasagna, swedish
meatballs - rare but there). Oatmeal ok for breakfast still. Keep the meat
and veggies - even the occasional potato at dinner. Tofu is still ok. Have
I got this right?
Then lets say I absolutely needed a piece of bread or a few bites of DH's
dessert. I would use flex points for it, yes?
I should say that I'm thinking of switching for a while to try it out
because I've basically been at the same weight for 6 weeks now though I've
been pretty much OP. It's the whole being sick thing that screwed me. I
started puking again on Saturday which then bloated me on Sunday and for WI
on Monday (typical). Also, at my current weight I am taking a size larger
in the waist than I did at this weight in the fall of 2004. My legs upper
body are shrinking faster than my middle and I think changing out my carbs
and ridding myself anything refined will help. I don't really do much
refined crap, but it is in some of the entrees I eat and the occasional
snack.
I've had a craving for lasagna so I'm using my brand new mandolin slicer to
make zucchini noodles.

I have my book out and I think you have everything correct. Just watch
portion control; it seems like most who don't succeed on core are eating
larger portions than they should. Tofu is fine as is plain oatmeal.

Thanks! I have my book out and will be reading it tonight. Right now I'm
not worried about portions so much because I'm not really into eating a lot
of food (quantity). I just want a change up of sorts for a few weeks to get
out of my rut. It seems like the change to core helped others focus more on
their eating for a while.

Hey VBchick!........Core is great is you like eat everything healthy. I
really enjoyed for the 4 weeks that I tried it. Unfortunately, I used core
as an excuse to eat larger portion sizes, so I didn't get great results at
the scale. Week1 - stayed the same, Week2-went down 2.4, Week3-went down
1.2, Week4-went up 1.6
As far as I can tell, your posting correctly identifies what you should be
doing.
I really want to stress however, that sticking to the 8 healthy guidelines
is very important on both plans!
The 35 flex points that you get per week is for any items NOT listed as
core.
Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress. If you are close to goal -
don't expect immediate results - it may take a few weeks as I have seen with
others in my class. My leader always says, "Give it at least 2 weeks!"

Thanks Eddie. I'm not all that close to goal and I know what's been messing
me up though in the overall scheme of things I have stayed at the same
weight for many weeks now which is a victory because normally I'd pile on 10
lbs our of frustration. I just want a change of pace for a few weeks to
stop obsessing over every ounce of food.
My left hip flexor is almost totally seized up again which means no 5K in
May and probably none at all this year. I'm aggravated and frustrated over
my lack of progress in the fitness arena and want to spend more mental
energy there right now. I started a new workout plan yesterday to rehab the
hip while still building up my cardio endurance. Tomorrow night I begin a
new kickboxing class - not Tae Bo but serious
kick-the-crap-out-of-something-fighting. I think that the aggressiveness
will be helpful and a good balance for all of the yoga and stretching I need
to do.

Oh, I'm sorry, but that cracked me up! Hehehehe! As I'm a long-time
teacher of English (occasionally to university entrance level!) with
dyslexia, I'm sure you understand why!
