as with anything moderation is best practiced, look at the calorie and sugar
content of what you are drinking and decide on an item by item basis, Lee

even the natural sugars in fruits you have to watch, i think its safest to
stick with water, that way it is unlimitied......IMHO

Are the mainly all sugar nowdays?
Even carrot juice?
If yes on quitting ...what abt buying a juicer and
making my own juice so no added sweeteners and such?

Well I guess I'm wondering just how many people have
quit drinking all juices and are in fact drinking
nothing but water
Stormmee - 28 Jun 2006 14:12 GMT
I quit juice when I joined WW because I don't like to drink my points, on
core it not a core food so I choose between juice or my sushi at the end of
the week, I occasionally drink tomato juice when on flex and traveling but
that is about it, the occasional soda when I want one and can get one with
splenda, Lee

Not me. I buy the lowest on sugar I can find, but I'll be darned if I quit.

You don't have to quit them altogether, just swap to zero cal ones... I
can't stand any of them, so I never drank them anyway.
> But should a person quit drinking ALL juices as well?
No, only those with added sugar.
> Are the mainly all sugar nowdays?
What do you mean? All fruits contain a bit of natural sugar.
> Even carrot juice?
I've never seen a carrot juice with sugar added. Carrots do contain a
certain amount of natural sugars as does fruit juice.
> If yes on quitting ...what abt buying a juicer and
> making my own juice so no added sweeteners and such?
That will give you pure juice with no ADDED sugar, but won't take out
the natural sugars in the fruit and veg.
A medium glass (250ml) of pure juice with no added sugar counts as one
portion of fruit or veg and is usually 1.5 WW points... Whereas an
apple is only half a point and still a fruit portion. If you really
want to cut the calories from drinks, swap to water, tea and coffee
without milk, and occasional fruit juice spritzers.
There are easier ways to cut calories in you diet.

Portion control
Stop snacking on anything except fruit and veg
Don't eat fast food or anything fried.
Or you could do it the easy and fun way and join Weight Watchers.

for me its easier to just start there

I'm not, I admit, much of a juice person. I'd rather have the whole
fruit squidged up and made into a smoothie. :) I stopped drinking
citrus juices when my gall bladder complained, and I usually only use
apple juice in fruit salads (I use juice rather than syrup). BUT there
is a farm close by here that does single variety apple juices, and those
are lovely. I also have some French pear juice I bought in a farmer's
market last week that is wonderful.
I do have a juicer for my food processor, and when there's a glut of
apples and pears I do make juice. I don't much like vegetable juice: it
all tastes like liquid compost to me, and I'd much rather eat a carrot
or three or make them into soup and use the whole thing than waste time
juicing them to get a higher calorie fix than the zero point veg would be.

I was "thinking" of buying a VitaMix

Really?
Do you find yourself even using it much?
Or is it better to just buy such juice already made (no
added sugar)? More economical in ling run?

Oh, MUCH cheaper to buy, especially if you cost your time in! But when
you have time to spare and a glut of fruit, a juicer can be put to work
and you can freeze the juice to use later.

For me juice was just too many calories for so little satisfaction...I do
enjoy carrots and fruit but now eat them whole...Although on occasion
nothing beats fresh orange juice...I've had 2 juicers in my life and both
were a pain to clean...Of course if your a purist nothing beats homemade but
with just a little taste testing you can find great juice at the market...GG

I guess my question really is this:
Do all man made juices form a factory have ADDED sugar?
If yes.... would it be healthier to eat home made juice
without any added sugar?

No. Here in the UK very few do.

Healthier than juices with added sugar, yes. Not necessarily healthier
than straight juice factory made...

For me, i made a choice to only drink zero or very low cal drinks. 95%
of the time it's plain water.
Just think about all the calories you're drinking if you have a regular
drink (not non/low cal) with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack. You
can easily exeed 500 cals/day in the drinks alone! If you replace 500
cals in drinks w/ water, that's a savings of about 3500 cals/week...
that's 1 lb weight loss.
I don't need to lose any more weight, but I still usually drink only
water. I'd rather get my 3500 cals/week through delicious healthy
food! :)

Yes!
And that's exactly what I've been doing....DRINKING a
lot of cals!
I was drinking 3 MT Dews a day

As a source of fruit or veggies I don't drink juice. However, since I
am a diabetic and when I need a quick boost for my blood sugar I will
drink 8 oz of apple juice. I hate to do it, but it sure beats the
alternatives.
