Hi All,

My name is Lyn, I live in Portland, OR, and I'm starting WW again - for
the 3rd time.  3rd time's a charm, right? :)  I am interested in the
core system and may eventually switch to it, but am doing points now,
which is what I am familiar with.  This is the first time I have done
WW since we adopted our son in 2004 - I am finding it a  bit more labor
intensive to make *my* food, his food and my DH's food, but I think I
will get the hang of it after a couple of weeks.  Anyway, just wanted
to say Hi.  I have committed to 12 weeks, and am looking forward to
evey one. :)

Welcome back on track.  There are very few times I have to make separate
meals for DH these days. He really enjoys the things I make for myself.
Usually it's when stuff like pork chops are on sale (can't stand them) and
then I grill some for him and a tuna steak or marinated tofu for me.  The
only other difference in our meals is that he likes potatoes and I'll
sometimes grill or roast a butternut squash or zucchini for myself.  He eats
what I do 98% of the time albeit more than I do.

Seriously, I'd start sneaking in the things you make for yourself as
components of his meals and eventually you won't have to make two separate
meals.  It's also a flexible enough plan that you can be teaching your son
how to eat nutritionally.  Whatever you decide, best of luck on the journey.

as an example, last nights dinner was made in the steamer, in the bottom
basket we layered onions and garlic, then at one end I put deep sea dorrey,
at the other end 2 chicken legs, then on top of the fish, more garlic and
onion.  In the next basket up I put a bowl with canned asparagus and canned
mushrooms, on either side of this bowl I put frozen Brussels sprouts, in the
top basket I put, red potatoes... steamed for an hour or so... When we
served it we each got vegetables and potatoes, DH had butter and I think ff
sour cream, I had ff sour cream and salsa.  He had the chicken and I had
fish.  Lee

Hi Lyn, welcome to the group and good luck.  I know where you are coming
from when it comes to separate meals.  My husband will eat some of the meals
I cook for myself, but if I know he won't like what I'm making I usually
open a can of chili or soup for him, or he'll heat up some burritos.  I will
NOT get into making a separate meal for him that takes me any longer than
about 5 minutes!  When it comes to my son, he will pretty much eat whatever
I am eating, so I don't have to make him anything different.

Thanks, everyone, for the warm welcome!  I should probably have
explained a little better - DH and I do eat many of the same things yet
I am trying to avoid some things he likes like hot dogs, potatoes and
cheese - sometimes because I don't like them and sometimes because I
don't need them!  And DS is only 2 and a half, so he can't eat some of
the things I buy for myself (like artificial sugars, etc.)  Both eat
really well/healthily for the most part and are at normal weights.  I
am the one who needs to focus more on portion control and cut out
things like sugared sodas and ice cream (which is a big problem for me
- I need to learn modertation with it!)  I am also not a big fan of
meat so am trying to incorporate more meat in my diet.

Anyway - look forward to popping in every now and again to see how
everyone is doing. :)
-L.
