Lá~ká~ Wáná - 22 Jul 2006 22:50 GMT I was up one pound this morning. How can this happen when I didn't go over my points since I started? I also walked 4.2 miles yesterday in addition to my regular daily exercise. I'm post menopausal so it's not hormonal.

Ok, I'm over being upset. I do eat all my points. I was just upset and a bit surprised to see a lb back on when I didn't cheat and I walked so far. I have to hang in and not get discouraged so easily.

What would make them retain water? Most days I walk 1 1/2 to 2 miles. I wish I could find the original WW diet plan from the 1960s. I remember how everyone I knew was losing over a pound a week and none that I recall were exercising like I need to do to lose on WW. And no, I do not go over my 26 pts a day. I have no cravings for certain foods. There were no points back then and some foods were unlimited and yet they lost weight without having to walk as I am doing. Any suggestions were I may find the original plan? Has anyone here tried the original plan? I would love to give it a try.

I seldom walk that far. I've been walking 1 1/2 to 2 miles a day for almost a month now. I myself was not on WW back then as I weighed no more than 110 lbs in those days. I just recall several of the girls on my block and at work who went on WW and HOLY COW.... did they lose weight! I don't remember them complaining about being hungry.

Willow Herself - 25 Jul 2006 21:40 GMT If you work the muscles a lot, sometimes they retain water in the.. huh... recuperation stage? not sure of the english word for it.
When you work out, the muscle kinda break up, and then in the recuperation stage (if that's the right expression) they "repair" themselves...
I've found that when I lift weights more than usual, or change my routine radically I gain a temporary "water gain".
I asked a friend who's a doctor and works with athletes a lot and he explained ( man that was long and boring) that it's because you're muscles keep water when they traumatized.. I won't go through the whole explaination cause 1 I don't remember and 2 I'm not really interested, but that's what it boils down to.

lesanne - 26 Jul 2006 10:56 GMT I am late on this one, but during the time I was losing I was up a pound several times. The first year back on program from 2/16/02 - 2/28/03 I journaled every day, and never had an off-program day. I was into a Doug kind of thing. I went up six times. Several other times I lost 0. The next year I went up 5 more times before getting to goal in August of 2003. Up happens. The downs exceed the ups. This gives you practice for maintenance when you are not going to stay one weight every day of your life. If you learn to put your head down and keep plugging away at your lifestyle change when you gain, you may get to goal and stay there. I am up right now because of a ton of life situations. I will be down again by time to weigh in for August.

Thanks. It looks like I am once again plateaued after only a few weeks back on the program. These plateaus happen sooner and sooner now when I restart the program. They can last for months. The frustrating thing is if I eat more (a few points a day) I immediately start to gain the weight back. If I cut back on points to lose the weight I get shaky and weak and am told it's starvation mode. I can't win for losing......... now if only the loss was weight. :o( It seems the 26 points is too much food for me. It's like a maintenance amount, not a lose weight amount.
I'll keep on going though and try not to get discouraged as I have in the past. I walked 2.3 miles today and am on program.

Deb in Northern California - 29 Jul 2006 02:25 GMT Your signature shows you having a current weight of 162lbs. If that is the case, then 26 points is too much. According to the WW materials, at 162 you should be on 22 points a day, with the 35 weekly point allowance and then the exercise points you add. So maybe you are eating too much in order to lose. You are eating to maintain instead.

You are eating to > maintain instead. My Success book says 20 to 27 pts a day. Since I do exercise the leader told me (when I was making meetings) to stay on the high side since I wasn't losing much weight - less than a lb a month. I think you're right. She should have told me to drop pts, not stay at the top. I was getting conflicting advice there.
These points are annoying. I wish I could get a rough calorie number to eat per day. That would make it so much easier for me. Using the URL from another poster, I think, if I understood what he said - to reach 130 lbs it would be something like 1200c a day. How many points would THAT be?

Deb in Northern California - 30 Jul 2006 05:24 GMT 1200 calories is approximately 24 points, but if you want to count calories instead of points, try www.fitday.com it might work better for what you are looking for than the WW program which you are not liking.
Also, since you are using the older system of a range of points instead of a set amount and bonus (weekly flex points), then you are about right with 26 points a day.
Using the Flex way it would be 22 points a day, plus 35 points a say spread throughout the week or used in one day at your discretion or not used at all.
I still think you are aiming for too low of a weight though for your age and height, but that is just my opinion.

I'll check out fitday, thanks. :-) Most of the food I eat has the calories already listed and I plan to buy a small digital scale to weigh food next trip into town (if they have them here). A friend just returned two books this morning, "The Calorie Counter" and "The Supermarket Nutrition Counter" which also lists calories. They're going to be very helpful this time around.

No matter how many sit-ups I do I'll have a "belly" at say 135, 140 lbs and over. In a bathing suit, dress or skirt I'll look pregnant. My belly is the last place I lose weight.

Stormmee - 28 Jul 2006 11:39 GMT it seems to me that this realistic viewpoint on weight/lifestyle is what helps one to maintain after losing, and it is what keeps me on program, not every day has been on program for me, but every day has been a conscious decision for me, the biggest change that has allowed me to stick with it for so long is that I no longer eat without thinking, when I do decide to eat outside the program I decide in advance and I also know why I made that decision and how long it will last. Wed. is a perfect example. I went to a class, I thought they would have pizza at the class, I had decided to use my WPA and eat 3 slices,... at the end of the class they had deli sandwiches instead of pizza, nope didn't eat that, was hyped for pizza, and hungry but refused the deli stuff because I didn't know what mystery meat was on them and the bread didn't smell fresh, DH had a slice and said I missed nothing, so we went to dinner with friends at Ryan's and I stayed on plan, Ryan's has lots of food for core. Lee I am late on this one, but during the time I was losing I was up a pound several times.
