     I'm a  M/ 5'4/ 180 lbs. and I need to get to 140 or about.The
problem is that after a 15 lb. weight loss,I can't budge the scales.

I'm beginning to think that height has something to do with the
ability to lose weight.
All my taller friends and some family members  are on the same high
pro.-low carb program and they are all successful.

Am I way off on this theory and ,if so,what do you think is the
problem?

                Thanks in advance,
                                  L.C.

What are you doing to lose the weight? This is a Weight-Watchers group
and I know that following the WWs plan, it would be very unusual to
plateau like that after losing 15lbs.

If you've been following a low cal diet it is possible you're eating too
little - this is the typical pattern with very low cal diets. You
initially lose well but then your metabolism drops to a snails pace and
you stop losing.

You mean something like Atkins? That doesn't suit everybody - many
people are on this group because low carbing didn't work for them.
Instead, we use a system that relies on learning appropriate portion
sizes, cutting the fat and increasing the fibre, fruit and veg and
learning a better way of eating that hopefully we can stick to for life.
Oh, and the great thing is you can eat anything you like - provided you
control the portions.

There is evidence that low carbing works like every other diet - by
cutting your calories. The fact is that most people can't eat sufficient
protein and fat foods alone to get fat. But some people *can* and
they're the ones for whom the total lack of portion control doesn't
work. Other people end up doing the opposite: eating so few calories
that their metabolism crashes.

Either way, neither group is learning how to control their portion sizes
for life, they are depriving themselves of a major food group (which
means they won't be able to stick to it for long) and I cannot see how
it's possible to eat the recommended amounts of fruit and veg (minimum 5
a day) and stick to a low-carb diet. Not to mention the fact that most
medical authorities believe complex carbohydrates (wholegrains etc.)
should be the main energy source in the diet.

YMMV, but you may want to look into the WWs way of doing things and see
if that works better for you. It certainly worked well for a lot of us!

It doesn't sound like you are following the WW program. Why don't you try
it!

I think what Anna wrote is spot on. It could be that you're not eating
enough, so your metabolism has slowed down. I don't think that height
plays much of a role, if any. Try getting involved in Weight Watchers,
and see how that works for you. It's working very well for most of us
:)

Good luck,
Heather
