Debbie - 18 Sep 2006 20:59 GMT Will they give you an activity point thingie the first week you join if you ask for it?
Debbie<---willing to pay $11 for it but not $33 (three weeks of meetings).
Stormmee - 18 Sep 2006 21:13 GMT if I were you the first 12 weeks would be a must, good luck, Lee

Eddie-Type2 - 18 Sep 2006 22:43 GMT Meetings in my area are $16 CDN.
I buy 6 month memberships and that knocks it down a bit to $13 I think.......
I don't think you get your activity point calculator until Week 3

Willow Herself - 18 Sep 2006 22:41 GMT They aren't supposed to.. since we know that people are trying to do exactly what you're trying to do.. come once, get the whole thing, then bail out. Will~

To line WW pockets? Their stuff is not free. I've paid good money for their products and I subscribe to WW magazine, so I'm not bailing out of anything. But to pay $33 for a slider on activity points is ridiculous.

Stormmee - 20 Sep 2006 08:31 GMT if you are counting calories you aren't doing WW and don't need the slider, Lee, thinking a website with calories for exercise might help you more

I don't really need it that bad since I don't count APs anyway (was just trying to be a participant in here and ask a question). I've lost weight on diets before that were not WW. Calories in vs Calories expended. WW does not have the copyright to that.
Debbie
Stormmee - 20 Sep 2006 12:02 GMT very true and if I could have done it on the dozen others I tried I would have stuck there, this is one of those deals where you have to find what works for you, for some that is WW for others it is calories, and for others it is a strict NO list, I am always happy for more participants, Lee, hoping you do lose on whatever plan you choose

I have been lurking and participating in this ng for years (back when SusieQ was here) and I've never been made to feel like I was doing something deceitful or immoral until yesterday. I love this group and try to give whatever hints I can when I have them.
I've also bought every book on diets and cooking low-fat known to man, I believe, so I try to gather from all the resources I can. There's more than one way to skin a chicken (pun intended).
Debbie<happy now. LOL

> "Stormmee" > [quoted text clipped - 11 lines] > > Debbie Willow Herself - 22 Sep 2006 22:31 GMT If you want to lose by counting calories rather than followed the WW program, what do you need the slider for?
WW is a business, as in, there to make money.. it's not a charity organisation. If you want to lose weight on your own, go right ahead.. all you have to do is eat less calories than you burn..
But if you want to follow the WW program, using the WW tools.. than.. yeah.. it cost money.. it's a business.. which is why the staff won't give you the stuff for free.. Will~

There is a sharing of new food ideas, meals and recipes, exercise techniques, how to get through difficult situations and all sorts of things that are supportive. Of course Debbie initiated the criticism yet didn't like being criticized herself. Who is Lee, by the way? And how does top posting help her? I'm confused?
Top posting for the most part is annoying to many (many groups on USENET discourage it for that reason) as most of us are used to reading as we would a book. Top posting is like getting the answer before you know the question. It also is hard to dissect the reply when it all is crammed into the attributes. If people were more judicious about trimming up the unnecessary quoted material before they reply to the pertinent bits, it would be much easier to follow.

Stormmee - 24 Sep 2006 08:28 GMT I am lee, I use a screen reader and it is terribly easier for me to read if others top post... this group being the great group it is, without me asking, and discerning from some of my wining from time to time about computer problems I have mentioned that top posting is easier, many of the people in here just started doing it, sorry if that bothers you, Lee

I remember now...Activity Points. Let's see:
Flying off the handle Jumping to conclusions
Are these light, moderate or extreme?
- Ralph
Stormmee - 01 Oct 2006 19:08 GMT depends on how much you exert yourself doing them, for some it seems that they can only be counted at light as the ease at which they are done seems to be routine and second nature, for others extreme as they rarely occur, Lee, vow
> > Happy to help M'lady.. > > [quoted text clipped - 16 lines] > > - Ralph Deb in Northern California - 07 Oct 2006 18:22 GMT Personally I prefer top posting, as I don't have to scroll through the whole message to see what someone is replying to.
If you are reading the thread you should have read the previous message and then see what others are replying back to.

pat - 25 Sep 2006 11:52 GMT I've been posting to USENET for more than 10 years. As you can see, I top posted here.. Its a PITA to scroll to the bottom of a long post to see what's been written.. not to mention, the large # of peps who are now reading groups @ Google. Its a PITA to read with Google.. and annoying as all h*ll to have to click a link to 'read' more of the post to see the new bits because they've been bottom posted.

Got a little defensive since I felt like I was getting ganged up on. I am gonna join after I lose about 40 pounds (which I know I can do cause I've done it several times before with and without WW). I want it to stay off this time so I will join on down the line. I just don't want to pay for what I already know how to do. The last 20-30 is what I will need help with.
I expected a little bit of liveliness at the meeting and more participation actually, a few helpful hints or a recipe or two. I expected people to laugh a little and have fun. The friend I went with slept thru the whole thing.
I thought of going to the other meeting that's close by but was told that that leader posts people's progress in her church bulletin, so she's out of the picture as a leader for me.
Debbie
Stormmee - 20 Sep 2006 13:07 GMT what you expected is what I get at my meeting, I hope Willow reads your post I don't think she is allowed to make your progress public, and I hope if she does someone reports her, Lee, waiting for willow to comment on this hideous behavior

Stormmee - 20 Sep 2006 11:59 GMT not at all, its just that if you want what they have to offer you have to pay for it, if you can do it on your own you are better than me for sure, Lee

It's just been a lifelong battle for me and I've been gathering info for about 35 years. LOL. I know my body responds well to exercise and cutting out junk food. But since I am getting older, it may be harder this go around. I will see if I can do it on my own and if I can't, I will join. Lost 3.5 pounds this week and hubby is keeping me accountable and buying my food stuff and walking with me. He's a great help to me. This go around I don't just want to lose, I want to be healthy. When your knees start hurting, it's time to start thinking about health instead of looks! LOL
Thanks for the encouragement, Lee.
